My iQue has stopped recognizing my SD cards. I have two 256mb cards (Sanddisk + Panasonic). When ever either card is inserted the "Unrecognized Card" message pops up. I've tried several soft resets.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions other than RMA?

If you have a card reader or have otherwise backed up the data on your sd cards go into the card info utility and reformat one of the cards, it is an option on the drop down menu within that utility and see if your iQ can properly recognize the card after a fresh format.

Back it up to the PC first, then Hard Reset. Try it again before loading any software. If its still not working, then its RMA time.

Thanks ... this is essentially what Garmin said when I called this morning. I'll have to wait until I get home to see if this works.

I was also told by Garmin that their iQue is currently out-of-stock ... either sales are doing well or there are too many RMAs!!!

are you only getting the error using certain applications? I had that problem when I switched from my Sandisk to my Panasonic card. I copied all the files using my pc from one card to the other to make them the identical and when I tried to access the mp3s in pTunes using the new card I received the "unrecognized card" error. then I cleared out the playlist and reloaded it and things worked fine.

sounds like your problem may be more serious, but thought it might be worth a shot.

The iQue does not recognize the CARD ... affects all applications.

Not with my ique but with other handhelds that I've owned the problem lie with the cards and not with the handheld.

In this case with Mr. Robertson he has two cards that worked before and are no longer working so the probability is less likely.

After hard resetting the ique and giving it a go, I still believe reformatting one of the sd cards (after backing up) in the iQue is worth trying before an RMA.

I will not purchase any more sandisk cards because of problems that I have had in the past with them.
I had 2, 256 meg CF cards fail all together in my digital camera couldn't be read or reformatted and another that was intermittent.

Additionally several devices have had problems reading and or writing to high capacity Sandisk media.

On the plus side all the cards were replaced under warranty and the replacements are all still working well so perhaps some of their QA problems have been addressed.

Also have had quirky things happen like a card not being recognized in my pda or camera after being formatted on a pc. Some devices handle these type of problems better than others.

I've only had my iQue for a couple of weeks so I'm not sure which category it falls into yet.

Either way good luck with your issue!:)

Friday I called Garmin (Kevin) ... after explaining my problem we tried reloading R3 but to no avail. Since the problem was affecting both of my SD cards, it appeared to be more of an iQue problem than a card problem. I was finally given an RMA number and was asked to send back both the iQue and one of my SD cards.

Instead of rushing to get my unit off to Garmin, I decided to be a little more persistent and try to resolve the problem myself ... soft resets without then with a card installed; hard resets without and then with a card installed; then backing-up and re-formatted the cards using the Panasonic PC reformatting application found here (http://panasonic.jp/support/audio/sd/download/sd_formatter_e.html) (thanks Chrisq) ... nothing. In frustration, I just started alternating the insertion/removal of each card ... after about 20+ iterations the iQue finally recognized the Sandisk card then the Panasonic card. I then restored all my files from BackMan.

It has being working properly ever since ... Weird ... but it looks like I don't have to do the RMA thing!

Using FileZ, I see there is a 40-byte file called VOLUME.NAM (with Hidden and System attributes) in the root of the SD card.

Using CardExport, I see that file has the volume name in it (the name you see for "Card:" in CardInfo, and as the last category in the Launcher). This name is set when you Rename Card in CardInfo.

Perhaps that file was lost or corrupted.

Palm Insider PRO allows viewing the content of such a file directly on the iQue. FileZ allow viewing/editing of files in iQue internal memory only, it seems.

Oh, is that why sometimes the FileZ offers to show the contents of a file and sometimes it does not -- I thought I was the problem :)

I just had problems 2 days ago with a 256MB Sandisk card. A file became corrupted and I could not reformat using PC or Panasonic Formatter. I could delete all files except the corrupted one. I finally just put it back into the IQue and it instantly recognized it was "unformatted" and offered to do so and I accepted and it did.

I was able to retsore my map file and the World basemap to it. Seems to be working OK.

I did email Sandisk tech support and got a reply this morning offering to replace the card. Now I am wondering if I should just go ahead and take them up on their offer????
