My H5555 ipaq activesync works with the serial port , bluetooth and the USB cable/cradle but not with WiFi
The network shows that the pda is connected by my netgear wifi MA111 doggle to my desktop but activesync does not activate.
I also use T-mobile's hotspot softwear (free from T-mobile) and it also show that my H5555 ipaq is connected to my desktop.
how do I get activesync to activate.
I use comport 1 for the serial port cable/cradle
comport 7 for the bluetooth
and the usb for the cradle connection
all work except WiFi

Open the connection settings on active sync and make sure the alloy ethernet connections is checked

Just connecting to the same network is not enough to make it sync with Activesync.
Assuming that Pocket PCs work the same way as handheld PCs, you need to use ActiveSync on the pocket PC to "connect" to the server PC once connected to the network.

thank you but there is no network
the wifi doggle is plugged into the USB port on my desktop
and it connects with the built-in wifi on my ipaq H5555 pda.
all signs is that ipaq and the desktop are connected
however, activesync does not start
all boxes are checked and I have tried all com port settings
bluetooth, cable USB, com1-cable all work and start activesync

you have to manualy sinc via the pda when on a network, it will not auto connect

You are NOT READING OUR POSTS.
Read them carefully.
Wi-Fi is just like a standard ethernet network except without the cables.
If you have a Wi-Fi dongle attached to your PC, it is like you've installed an network card on that PC.
Similarly with the PPC.
Just having both devices on a network (be it wireless, wired ethernet, dialup, etc.) DOES NOT automatically make it sync. Otherwise, every time you connected to the internet with your PPC it would try to connect to every other PC in the world with Activesync installed.
Wi-Fi which is in essense WIRELESS LAN is not like Bluetooth, serial, USB, or IrDA which is in essense a DEDICATED connection between two devices.
Assuming that you actually have installed the Wi-Fi dongle on your PC correctly and it is working you should check that your iPAQ has connected onto the wireless network.
If so, you will have to then MANUALLY load up the Activesync app on your iPAQ and manually set it to connect to your PC. Wi-Fi is still like a standard network. Just like you can't get a PPC to automatically sync via a wired network or over the internet or dialup upon connection, you can't do it with Wi-Fi either.
If you don't understand about networking or how Wi-Fi works, I suggest you do some background reading first.

I see what your problem is now, WiFi (802.11b) devices cannot connect to each other, they need to have a wireless access point to bridge the connection.

I had no idea -- I bought the bluetooth device first and it worked but then I bought the wifi device just to add that technology to my knowledge base.
since my H5555 had bluetooth and wifi built in a doggle for each technology seemed a good idea.
when I first ran the wifi device on my desktop using a program from T-mobile it seemed to recognize my ipaq but activesync would not connect.
I wonder if I can use the wifi doggle in my desktop to create an access point --- right now it is set for computer-to-computer only?
All this is fun for me and I truely enjoy the wonderful functions of my desktop, my pda, my celllphone and all the other devices that extend my existance to connect other people and places for a world of information.....
thanks again for your help --- part of the joy is receiveing help and and helping others

As far as I know you can't, but keep looking you'll find out one way or another.

You shouldn't need an access point.
You should be able to run the wireless network in ad-hoc mode.
I can sync with my Handheld PC (Win CE 2.11) using Wi-Fi in ad-hoc mode and I don't see why you shouldn't be able to with your PPC either.
If you have multiple network adapters on your host PC (e.g., in addition to your internet connection, you also have the Wi-Fi AND the wired ethernet), it can cause some problems with connection.
I don't know enough about Windows networking to necessarily help you here... but I do know that you SHOULD be able to sync your iPAQ with your PC if both have a Wi-Fi network card. An access point (i.e., running in infrastructure mode) makes it easier to set up but isn't necessary.

i believe that the wifi in my ppc and the wifi usb doggle are connecting - the t-mobile and windows software do indicate the presence of the pda and that the connection is made
the problem seems to be with activesync - it won't run
the error messages I get were listed above - maybe if i hunt around I can find the right "words" to put into the spaces
SSID etc - i am running without any wap etc just to try if I can succeed.
maybe if someone has the same combo - XP desktop and IPAQ H 5555 they could send me the the screen shots for the setup....
thank again
