I am experiencing a weird problem with my Import/Export ability. Often when I activate this and then try to access my MS (Sony brand), it will cause my computer screen to go completely blank and the only solution is to manually power off the computer and re-boot. I can't figure out why it does this. It wasn't at first. Any ideas?

What version of Windows? Are you using MSImport to connect? It sounds like a conflict with another running process in Windows.

I am using Windows XP. This problem does not occur at work where I am using Windows 2000. I have no idea what it would be conflicting with.

I don't have any idea what program is causing the conflict either but one is, that's for sure. I'm still not clear on exactly what you're doing since I don't have a UX. Does this problem occur when you are using MSImport, or what ever the replacement app is on the UX, to connect from your UX to your PC, or does the problem happen when you're using a program that's on your PC to connect to your UX?

I have no problem actually connecting to the pc with my Clie (Import/Export). The problem occurs when I start browing my Memory stick from my pc just by going through "My Computer". I haven't installed anything new on my computer other than Palm software but I don't really recall which exactly, certainly nothing that I haven't installed on my Win 2000 workstations. It has to be something specific to XP. Like searching for a needle in a haystack. I might also add that I think it only happens when I try to access video or image directories on the MS. I could be imagining that but I don't think so.

Connie,
Get a program called EndItAll. Just enter it in Google and you'll find the download site. EndItAll will close down all running processes except those need to keep Windows running. Try connecting and browsing the MS after you've run EndItAll. If it now works, you've at least identified it's a running process on Windows that's the problem. As you say, identifying exactly which one is the trick. My first choice of suspects would be any antivirus or firewall programs you're running.

I used EnditAll and stopped everything from running but it did no good. I am able to use Import/Export and send mp3 files to my MS but I cannot browse the MS with "my computer"

Connie,
How are you copying over the MP3 files? I assume you must be able to see the contents of your memory stick in order to copy the MP3's to the right place. When your Clie is connected, what happens if you use Windows Explorer to locate the MS as an additional drive? It should show up as an additional drive there and you should be able to browse the contents.

I copy over using the Export/Import program which has no problem performing. It puts the files onto the memory stick in the appropriate folder. I never have a problem until I try to access the MS through My Computer or Explorer. Then blackness sets in

Connie,
I'm stumped on this one. A quick look at the news group doesn't show this to be a common problem. The only thing I can suggest at this point is to take a good backup and then try a hard reset in case there's a corruption in the OS that's causing the problem.

I tried re-installing the SCSI driver and that didn't work. The problem here is I'm not sure if it's something on the Clie or something on the computer. More likely the computer since this doesn't happen on my W2K systems at work. Pain in the butt but I can manage to work around it I guess.
