Hi all!
I use Remote Desktop and WiFi a lot. It's great, I'ts a piece of cake set it up to run even the most demanding Windows apps remotely over the inernet. All that is needed is a Windows XP Professional server in the basement (made from scrap parts) and a cheap WiFi card. Presto! Any time I'm near either my own accesspoint or a hotspot, my tired old notebook from 1999 looks and behaves exactly as a p4 Windows XP machine.
As great as it is, it would be even better if I could run my server from a handheld! I can't wait to own a monster HPC with near-infinite power and storage =)
I know that there is a free Remote Desktop client for Windows handhelds, and I've heard rumours that there are also Linux and even Palm counterparts around to remote XP machines. So if I'm correct, the OS of the handheld shouldn't matter too much.
To really benefit from the handheld though, it would need a nice big screen to harness the xp-desktop. And since I love to be outdoors, a transflective one would be wonderful.
A clamshell design with QWERTY keybord would be great. Preferrably it would also have some kind of real mousepointer device rather than the tacky pen mostly used for PDA:s.
As for processor, it needn't be at all powerful, just as long as it can run Remote Desktop. Rather I would want as long battery life as is humanly possible.
So, any ideas for the best buy? Or is there a snag somewhere to prevent me from ever owning the dream machine?
