What is the best and easiest program to Uninstall apps that I don't like or can't use off my Treo 600?

There is a program\launcher program called ZLauncher. You can find it at palmgear.

I like it because it also provides a lot of other features besides the one your asking for. It also acts like a windows recycle bin because it requires two steps to totally delete a program if uses as such. It can also be used to immediately delete individual files.

The program does a good job of collecting all installed files when a new program has been added and the user decides not to keep it. And it shows you all of these in the recycle bin or Trash.

There is also a program called unistall manager available at palmgear and it uses a "sandbox" feature to safely allow the installation of a program and keeping it inside the lines to try before allowing it into the main memory.

I don't use it anymore because of perceived issues with the sand box feature where I thought it was causing resets.

I actually use Zlauncher and FileZ in conjunction with one another to keep track. FileZ has one feature that is not in ZL which is it can see the individual settings in the "saved_preference" file on the Treo which can be helpful when power using or trying multiple programs.

FileZ is freeware and also available at palmgear.

Thanks for the quick answers. I am installing ZLauncher as we speak.

One followup question that I have has to do with the installation of apps on the Treo. When I unzip the downloads, should I install every (english version) prc file in the new directory and all its subdirectories or only the main prc file? Even most Readme.first files don't answer what prc file to install.

Most readme files will tell you something but as you mentioned some don't. The other thing to look for is whether the name of the file indicates what version of OS it's for: ie XXOS35.prc or XX0S50.prc to indicate that a file might be for either OS 3.5 or OS 5.0+ devices. Many software vendors will put the various versions in self-marked sub-directories when a zipped file is unzipped. This makes it easy.

However, the other less creative software producers will generally explain or have mulitple verisions available for download from the web site. Under these circumstances, you need to pick the right download.

Ok, if faced with multiple prc's then I'd say as long as none of the criteria above has been addressed then load all prc files.

With Zlauncher, you can send them to the recycle bin or trash bin where they won't work but are still recoverable if necessary for a desired to keep program is still located.

One more thing, if a developer needs to create other files - the installation/activation process on the handheld will usually address this rather than having to load multiple PRC's through hotsync.

You can always post here or PM and I'll try and let you know for certain based upon a specific program - I'm familiar with many since I've been a Palm'er forever. :)

How can I see how big the Recycle Bin is. I'm not real comfortable with deleting files yet and want to watch how big that file gets.

In the view for the Recyle Bin it shows the size of each individual file. I don't of a "total" view but you should be able just to run a quick total if it's a concern.

If you don't see the 3 columns, Name, Size and Date then drag the column header's ala Excel style dragging to unhide the columns.
