I would like to replace the default netBook splash with a company splash. Is this possible?
The file that holds the splash is Z:\System\Apps\Shell\Splash.mbm. It is this file that is displayed with owner information at switch on.
I have tried creating a new Splash.mbm in C:\System\Apps\Shell but to no avail, so I assume that Z:\System\Apps\Shell is hard coded rather than searching all drives in sequence.
Any thoughts are welcome.

This is one of the things we could do once our "netBook booting" project is more advanced. If I could just crack that checksum problem in the headers, it should be simplicity itself to replace ANY file in the ROM with any other - or add or remove files even.
I've had some more thoughts on the problem, but now it is just getting the time to check them out - anyone know where I can get another say 18 hours each day from?

I appreciate your reply. The number of responses to my question is indicative that it is not possible to point to an alternative Flash.mbm.
Is there a way then, to imbed an object in the owner information? Any attempt gives the message “Cannot paste objects here”. Which does seem rather final. My feeble efforts so far have resulted in the company name in 70 point Arial. Not pretty.
Solving the boot/image puzzle will be a great step forwards, and I wish you good luck in finding the additional 18 hours.
The netBook Booting Project at http://netbookboot.sourceforge.net you have set-up is well laid out and informative. I hope your requests for help are answered though it may be difficult to find anyone who wants to flash their PROM.

I would imagine not - it is probably set up as a plain text display.

:D
... though it may be difficult to find anyone who wants to flash their PROM.
Which is why I bought a spare Malaybook specifically for this purpose. Really we want to hack/rewrite the flash tools so that it reads the contents of the PROM first, then we will consider reflashing this back to other PROMs.

Not being knowledgeable about the inner workings of a computer, I don't know if this is important or not. I found this on a Google forum: comp.sys.psion.misc, thread titled [ANN]New Psion application PsiROM which refers to the site: http://gtm.tel.uva.es/xtep/
I've looked at the 2 zip files. One has a .sis file, the other an .exe file and a text license file.
If they are of value, I'd like to know just how to use them - not just run them, but what does one do with them after installation. I don't want to screw up my Mbook.

Thanks ohsix!
What extrodinary timing, this might be just what the doctor ordered. With PsiROMx and PsiROM I can build a new IMG.OS with the company logo, just as I would a PsiLinux kernal. If I get time this evening I'll have a play.
It looks like Juan J. Villacorta has knowledge that would prove most useful to a number of current ventures.

Currently only for a 5mx, but he is working on a netBook version.
Very interesting!
