I've come across a German company called Softmaker who are developing an office suite for Pocket PCs. (http://www.softmaker.de/anywhere/index_en.htm ).

You can see a screenshot of their spreadsheet, Planmaker, on the Netbook Pro at http://www.softmaker.de/images/pmc04_en.gif.

Their word processor, Textmaker is marked on their website as "compatible with Psion Netbook Pro" (http://www.softmaker.de/tmhdetail_en.htm).

I'm not going to be upgrading to a Pro in the forseeable future, but this may be of some comfort to those who already have one!

TextMaker is undoubtedly the best full featured word processor for Windows CE (including the NB Pro). It has about MS Office 97 capabilities.

SoftMaker has also released its new PlanMaker as a beta which is a full featured spread sheet.

No wonder it has almost Word 97 capabilities, the download is 13MB! Given my experience with the "Pro" and CE "capabilities" of handling memory and it's footprint you probably need to bring a backpack of memory.

Correction it is 9MB to run the thing. Doesn't change my back theory.

I can (and do) run Textmaker on my Jornada 820 (Windows CE 2.11) and Jornada 720 (Windows CE 3.0). They run very well and fast.

The Jornada 820 only has a total of 16 MB (shared between program and storage)... With 128 MB or memory on the NB Pro, it should be a drop in the ocean... Or, you could just install the program onto a CF card and save the on board memory altogether. I haven't specifically looked at it, but I think that the running memory requires of Textmaker is no more than about 4 Mb.

TextMaker is available of multiple platforms including Linux, Windows and the Handheld PC platform (i.e., Windows CE). The main benefit is that there is almost complete identical feature set between these versions. That means, working on a document on your HPC (or NB Pro) would be pretty much the same as working on it on your PC -- no need to bother about format conversion or worse, parsing problems on different platforms.

TextMaker is really a remarkable program if you need a full featured word processor on the move. Especially with something like the NB Pro where you have a full touchtypable keyboard and you can directly print!

Planmaker looks like the spreadsheet equivalent to Textmaker. Fantastic.

As for the "download size"... don't forget that this includes the executable for for multiple CPU types (i.e., SH3, SH4, ARM, etc.)
