AAAAARRRGGGHH! I'm driving myself MAAAAADDDDD with this one!!!

Ihave a PEG-T625 which will not communicate with a new Psion 56k IR travel modem. I get a "no dial tone" report after a couple of retries.

What am I doing wrong???? Help me!! Please!

FYI the following setup:

Clie PEG-T625
Psion 56k IR Travel Modem
Inbox to go software on Clie
settings (?) for ntlworld ISP

The darn modem does seem to be reacting to the Clie, as the data led flickers; but the modem will not open the phone line to give a dial tone, therefore I don't know if my settings are correct or not.

Have I got a faulty modem? Should I be using an init string other than ATZ?

Please preserve my sanity someone!

:(

Okay as mine seems to work okay its either a problem with the modem or your settings.

Physical setup as follows:

RJ11 socket on modem to phone socket on wall. Distance between IR ports seems to max out at about a foot. (I didn't get a cable for the Psion specific connector on the back but suspect its for connection to the Psion 5/3 serial port)

Connection setup:
I created a new connection type called custom which has settings of (from top down) Modem, Infrared, Touchtone. Medium. Under details I have speed set to 57,600 and Flow control Automatic. The init string is ATZ.

On the network settings page the connection is set to Custom.

If it still doesn't work you could try connecting to a laptop or other handheld to see if the modem works or the same settings on the Clie should connect you via an IR enabled mobile phone.

One other thing, how many phones do you have connected to the line? If I remember rightly each phone line will only support an REN of 4... check the back of any faxes or phones on the same line to make sure you haven't exceeded 4 in total.

A BIG THANK YOU, Ian!

I addressed a few problems based on your recommendations, which did get positive results. However, it became apparent that something else was not right.

I changed the cable supplied with the travel modem for the one supplied with my original series 3 travel modem... and HEY PRESTO! everything works! And Very Well Too.

Once again, THANK YOU for your help and patience.

I would not have managed it without your help. I am planning on making detailed notes on this subject, in case anyone else wishes to use a Palm based device with the Psion Travel Modem.

Kind regards
