I was in the middle of upgrading software to 4.1 and the computer froze while the palm had that grey striped screen. I then rebooted and the screen went black on the palm. I have soft booted and Hard booted. Is it possible it needs a battery?? I cannot even get it to do anyhthing while in cradle plugged in...If they do require batteries where can i get them?

Dave,
What Palm III are you trying to upgrade? I hope it is not the Palm IIIe, that unit is not upgradeable.
I also hope you are using the Palm Upgrade CD so you can use Advanced Mode.
Batteries are AAA and can be purchased almost anywhere batteries are sold. The upgrade is hard on batteries.
Install some new batteries. Put the Palm back in the hotsync cradle and attempt to complete the upgrade in debug mode.

You will have to put the Palm into debug mode manually. Press and hold the scroll-down button while pressing the reset button on the back of the unit. The Palm should reboot with a flashing square in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. At this point, continue the upgrade in Advanced mode.

Good luck....you will need all you can get.

a IIIc right? mine did that too. DrMud is right on track. try and flash in advanced mode and when it tries to start flashing then try and put it in debug mode. you most likely will not see anything on the screen and will have to go by what the desktop says as to if it connected and is flashing. i had to fiddle with it about 5 times before i got it to go on mine and then all was well.

Bell,
If you don't mind sharing the information, would you let us know how much Palm is charging to reflash your OS.
