Hi.

Just wondering whether anyone used this adaptor? I'd lke to know on
the functionality of it, whether it allows the NB to be
Bluetooth capable. Will it allow for Bluetooth connectivity
for the NB software suite..

With some soldering we have tested it to work with PsiWin.

I have just now also ordered the new Canon i80 printer with Bluetooth and hope to try out printing during this month.

I have some other plans to actually work specifially on a Honda-connector version of the F2m01 plug, but currently have some financing problems to sort out before I can proceed.

Martin,
This is exciting and very promising news for Psion users. I'm holding my breath as well!

Design is done and tested, but need funding to manufacture it. Have not secured it yet, but working on it.

On the Canon i80 compatibility, there are some significant differences between it and the Canon BJC-80/85/50/55, so the excellent set of drivers from Andrew Johnson will not work straight off.

The existing "Canon XM mono fine" works on the i80, but with a different scaling. The text becomes much smaller than intended. Furthermore, colour is not supported.

Some changes needs to be done to the drivers and Andrew thinks they should be quite trivial. We're working on it.

Hey Hey

With this now happening and openpsion I am afraid I could use my NetBook for years to come. (Probably only have to invest in a NB pro battery, in a couple of years time.)

Martin and Dushaw you are my heroes!

BTW Martin what device are you using for your netbook needs? (Just curious):D

"I'm not trying to be a negative nelly" (Ned Flanders)

but

Has extra software been developed for the Bluetooth stack for passcodes and device searching?

If not, how else does it work? Could it possibly work with

1. Bluetooth Phones?
2. PsiWin?
3. Psion Java Link?
4. Other Psions?

Thanks (Sorry about the corney quote!)

First I need to say that it is far from certain that I will manage to complete this project, it has to do with funding, so please keep your level of expectation low.

Here are some brief answers to the questions asked by sebgate20:
Has extra software been developed for the Bluetooth stack for passcodes and device searching?
The design is based on a Bluetooth module which has all the stacks built-in. The idea is that passcode and device searching will be controlled from an OPL application using the module's wireless UART.

For those that are in any way familiar with Free2move's Bluetooth modules, the module I had planned to use is the F2M03AC2, which has a built in antenna. The module supports ranges up to 60 feet.

The module will only support the Generic Access Profile (GAP) and the Serial Port Profile (SPP).

If not, how else does it work? Could it possibly work with
1. Bluetooth Phones?
Yes, but only functions using the Serial Port Profile.

2. PsiWin?
Yes, this has been verified to work in an early lab test.

(In fact, the early test was using the F2M01 Class 1 module and it was verified that a PsiWin backup could be done at 250 metres Line of Sight range, a bit overkill don't you think? However the F2M01 consumes too much power so it drains the battery. The F2M03AC2 is a Class 2 module and consumes less than 30% power compared with the F2M01.)

3. Psion Java Link?
I can't really say. If it uses the serial port only, it should work.

4. Other Psions?
I am quite sure it would be possible to write file transfer and cross-backup routines in OPL between two Psions using serial port communications.

In terms of other types functionality, there's hope to get this to work with the Canon i80 Printer (which can be fitted with Bluetooth) and perhaps other BT printers. The condition is that they support printing using the Bluetooth SPP profile.

cheers
Martin

Martin,

You say this is an issue with funding, is this something that the communite can help with? What about the possibility of interested buyers providing a deposit up front?

Perhaps this is something that could be discussed and would perhaps help you raise the necessary funding and make this project happen.

I, for one, would be willing to commit to a deposit if this ment that this would make this happen.

Any though from others?

How much funding would be required to produce a release version?
