Hello there,

I tried to connect my iPAQ 3870 through Bluetooth with my T68i Phone which should connect me to my local internet provider.
The phone and the ipaq are paired.
After I try to connect the T68i shows that it is trying to call to the number mentioned but after a fraction of a second it stops calling and no connection is made. After a second try my iPAQ is telling me there is no answer on that number.
I can change the number for my provider to my home-phone and no for sure that the call is not even being made.
As I am in Russia I am using GSM (not GPRS) to try to get through.

Does anybody know what I am forgetting to change, so the phone will normally try to connect me ?

iPAQ is 3870, ROM 2.15.12 ENG
OS Version Windows CE 3.0
Bluetooth 1.1

thanks in advance for any try to help

Ruud

Just be clear, when you tried to ahve it dial you home phone number does you home phone ring?

No, the phone does not ring. I tried to have it call another GSM Phone as well, same result.

If I decide to "save password" before the first ring then my iPAQ calls twice, the first time my phone stops calling after a fraction of a second the second time after maybe half a second (after that the error message is coming up)

If the password is not saved then I am being asked to enter my password again BEFORE the second try. The rest of the result is the same.

There is a user manual here that may help.

... Also another thing. Have you made sure with your Mobile Phone Network Provide that you have had 'Data Calls' enabled on your account of your mobile phone.

The symptoms you mention sound exactly like the problems I had before I rang up to get 'Data Calls' enabled with my Mobile Phone Network Provider .

Thanks Bomber,

at least my provider confirmed that I did NOT have this switched on. It'll take some time until they do, so I cannot tell the result as yet.

With my GSM provider if Data Services are not turned on my phone says GSM phone says "Check Operator Services" on the screen.

In the "Bluetooth Manager" if you open up the properties (by single taping the phone from the devices list) and then click the "Action" Menu there should be something in there like "Set as Bluetooth Modem".

Have you tried using a phone with IR to dial-up. This would leave Bluetooth out of the equasion, helping to narrow down where the problem may be.

I know this is a jumble of info, if you need any help sorting out the info reply back.

Hello Nitestrike,

the Message "Check Operator Services" is NOT available.
the Action Menu and the function to set as bluetooth modem are all ok.
I tried to use an IR as well, with both my Ericsson T68i and a Siemens (model forgotten). The "connection" to the provider stands longer then with the bluetooth variant, but with the same result.
So my provider tells me I actually do NOT have the Data Calls switched on, but is willing to do so only after getting a written order from my company. (Long live Russian burocracy)
As we have holidays tomorrow and days after tomorrow, and I am to go for a business trip during next week, I'll be able to try is on the 18th only.

regards,

Ruud

Sounds like you have found the problem, with no Data Services. The "Check Oporator Services" usually comes up if you try to do a Data or Fax call and do not have that service activiated on you account, well at least that is how it is though my provider.

Hello to all who answered,

while on the Business trip I was on, I was able to try the same service in Germany with another GSM-Card. Service works well, Internet connection works without problem. The problem in Russia MUST therefore be with the provider. Thanks for your help.
