Could anyone offer me any help in setting up my 880 for wireless internet access with a PC card 802.11b Wi-Fi card or with a 802.11b LinkSys wireless compact flash card?
I would also be interested if there is some way, perhaps through the USB port, to get a USB/ethernet adapter to work in the "wired world?"

You are going to need a wireless router. I use a linksys wcg200 wireless gateway. You install the router on your desktop machine as per the directions from Linksys. You also need to follow whatever installation procedure came with your wireless card for the handheld. If this is done properly, the router should recognize the handheld automatically and you will be able to connect to the internet and your desktop files.
This router also supports ethernet connections. It works basically the same way. The router connects to the ethernet connection on the desktop. Then, from whatever distance away, you use an ethernet cable to connect the handheld.

Pete,
I also purchased a Linksys CF wireless card. Unfortunately I did not find out until later that Linksys makes two models of the CF card. One of them supports Windows CE, the other does not. I happened to purchase the one that did not. It works fine with my iPaq which runs Pocket PC, but not with my MP780 which runs Windows CE. I had bought it off of eBay for a cheap price so I was not to unhappy about it. Never bothered ordering the other unit for my MP780.
I am currently at work so I do not have the CF card with me, but I think the model numbers are WCF11 and WCF12. The WCF11 is the one that suports Windows CE. I hope that is the one that you purchased.

I hope this is not considered a cross-post, I posted a similar message somewhere else.
I got a 3COM wireless 802.11b 3CRWE737A Rev B.
It works, I got it for $10 on ebay. I think Proxim and Ornoco also make compatible Wireless cards. The 3COM works great on my MP780!
CF Ethernet cards are availible. You could use a wirless PCMCIA and an ethernet CF or vice versa for full connectivity.
