Hi. I'm hoping to get some feedback on a dilemma I have:

I know VB6 fairly well, and am currently transitioning to VB.NET. We need to create a mobile enterprise database application for a wireless Pocket PC. This application will be used in a workforce for work order maintenance and automatic inventory consumption and replenishment orders. I will be creating this application from scratch. Time is a pretty big factor.

I have three options, as I see it:

1. Use eMbedded VB.
2. Use .NET CF (SDE) - We have Beta 2 - Everett.
3. Use a third-party development package like AppForge (or open to other suggestions), which create ActiveX objects to ease development somewhat.

Price is also a consideration, and #3 is fairly expensive, but may be do-able if it will make application development much quicker.

Can I get some input on what option may be the best for us? I'd like to be able to create a SQL Server CE database that can be replicated or programmatically synced with an application server via a CDMA 1xRTT connection (using the Thera). I'd like to automatically either email or otherwise notify a technician whenever a new work order is created. Finally, I'd like to be able to create dynamic work orders when a job is complete and either print (IR) or email the document for the customer.

Any advice and suggestions would be *GREATLY* appreciated! Please feel free to email me as well.

Thanks again!
Steve

I have the same questions but for a medical application.
Have you heared about Borland recent Delphi 7, which gives the possibility to build .net applications ?

VB is no doubt the quickest and (usually) easiest way to get things done. Not to mention that you can download it for free.
