All of a sudden (today) my palm won't update my desk top. I get no errors. I admit I played with some other datebook programs that are now gone. I tried to sync from desktop to palm and got a fatal error and had to do a soft reset. I need the palm to update desktop. Do I need to reinstall software. Syn tells me that if sync'ed mail, expense, note pad, outlook calendar, outlook contacts, tasks, notes and system. but if I have added something new to palm it does not show on desktop

Any suggestions?

Hi pdc,
Describe the events that occur when you push the HotSync button on the cradle.
Do you see any activity on the PC? Does the HotSync manager show on the PC at all?
Are any error codes left?
What OS on the PC and the Palm?

YOu may need to reinstall and if you do besure to do the UnInstall process as linked below.

I have 4.0.1 for the desktop and 4.1 for the palm.

I was able to see a list of programs and related or unrelated information on my palm thru some extra program (silver screen) I deleted small files that I believed were related to programs I no longer had. Could I have deleted the equalivant of a "dll" on my computer to where the sync does not do what it should? I worked on it for a couple of hours and the palm just will not sync the desktop or vise versa.

If worse comes to worse there is a program on the palm, a complete listing of all passwords for everything I access, how do I make a copy of that so that I will have it if I loose all palm information? I have YAPS (yet another password software) and want to save the information in the event I have to do something drastic like hard reset or something. I hope I won't.

So, can you see from my postings what I may have to do to fix problem? Sure would appreciate a life boat!

Thanks "again"

As with my computer years ago, I learn the hard way.

Had to do a hard reset, backed up files, complete clean reinstall of palm desktop.

When I got my first computer, played with dll's and registry, which facilitated learning f-disking, formatting, partitioning, etc. Well, I guess I'll learn my new palm the same way. Got programs that allowed me too much access, I think. Rule #1...keep it simple. Still have hack "stay off" and a few other neat things.

Am able to sync all data back and forth now. I have no idea what I did to my new little palm, but it is fine now Thanks for the feedback.

I am sure I will be back!

Sounds like your success is evidence that there is truth in the saying, "Its not what you know it's what you do that counts."
