PalmIIIe ir internet?

Does anyone know if its possible to use a palm IIIe and a mobile phone to access the internet (mainly irc?) using an IR link?
I have set up the network and the modem settings (string AT&FX) and changed serial/ir to ir...
and it still doesn't work. Can anyone help. Also if could tell me the names of some good internet software for web and irc it would be appriciated

The palm website think you need OS 3.5 or higher... grrr

if you whish to connect to a modem in a mobile phone with a III-series palm you need the palm ir-enhancement (http://www.palm.com/support/downloads/irenhanc.html) installed on it.
updating to OS 3.5+ isn't a bad idea (what's the grrr about???)

my personal favorites for browsing on palm are
blazer (fast, fantastic rendering)
xiino (supports a lot)

also handy is the netconnect DA (if you do not have a DA launcher installed already i can surely recommend installing it now) which will allow you to easily connect/disconnect.

if after updating and installing the IRenh it still won't work you might want to check the settings again.

Hmm I think its impossible but will explain in more detail...

I have updated the ir stuff as you said. I have tried many different settings and int strings in the modem setup but the palm refuses to talk to the phone.
However I downloaded a program called DI27 and this will make the phone dial.

The grrr was because the palmIIIe doesn't have flashable memory. I have read a lot of stuff about people having problems with t68i's and palmIIIe.
They will communicate for sending numbers and date book entries etc but the palm will not accept the phone as a modem. I have tried almost everything now I think :(

The settings in my palm are as follows

- network - set up with my isp number and details
- modem -
mode custom
Speed 9,600
speaker low
flow cont automatic
string AT+cgdcont=,"ip","AWSDATA";^sgauth=1 (have tried others as well)
touchtone
- serial ir set to ir

If you have anymore ideas they would be greatly appreciated!

the probability of needing os 3.5+ is high (if you give me your current OS i can have a look what patches i have available (you need no flash for those)).

I am using
v3.0

in info it says palm OS software v3.1.1
I have IrDA Library v.3.01 (appears twice?)

So far I have managed to get the palm to dial the phone and also give a error saying that a modem is attached :) getting closer!
Oh and I have found it will dial my mates Nokia so I assume its the newness of the T68i thats the problem

I tried a few but they dont seem to have helped.. thanks a lot tho!
I think it may be immposible! I will look out for a new Irda patch as I think the problem is that the phone isn't included in the driver list or somrthing.
