I recently switched from using a Palm OS device to a Toshiba 755
Pocket PC, but I'm experiencing some frustration while synching. While it seems to work it doesn't seem to offer me a synchronization hierarchy the way Palm OS did: with ActiveSync, the only options seem to be either your Pocket PC data overwrites the desktop PC data or the other way around. Whereas the Palm OS offered an option that gave the most recently changed data the priority in the sync, which makes sense. After all, we make changes to both our PDAs and our desktops and a sync should integrate this. The "combine" option does not seem to do this for me, and instead it often creates duplicate entries in tasks and contacts when changes have been made. Can anyone help or offer a tip that I am not understanding? Thanks!

There are a couple of ways to handle this, one free but time-consuming and the other costs money.

If you set your rules to leave conflicting items unresolved, when you click to resolve items, ActiveSync will prompt you in each case to tell it which one to keep. If you only have a few items to resolve, this can be a fairly quick process. And it costs you nothing but a little time.

If you typically have numerous unresolved items or you want this to handle itself invisibly, you will need to look for a synchronization enhancement or replacement program. You should find a number of these on sites like Handango.com or Mobileplanet.com, but the solution will cost you a little cash. There is currently no setting in ActiveSync that will compare the dates/times that changes are made and keep the most recent if the same item on both PC and PocketPC has been changed since your last sync.
