Hi my screen has done a tantrum and only shows horizontal lines. These lines flash a bit and then disappear. I've tried soft and hard reset and also leaving the batteries out overnight. Is it the end of an era for me and Psion! Can any one reunite me with my much needed agenda? ( I'm aware that info recaptured would be my last save to PC.

Hi Paul,
Sounds as if your screen cable has given up the ghost (a comman problem on the 5/5mx/MC218. These can be replaced but if you don't fancy doing it yourself, it is better to return it to Psion (if still under warranty) or try the link below to POS who are cheaper and just as professional as Psion.
If you need to backup your psion before sending it off you should still be able to do so by following these instructions:
1) Switch On PC
2) Connect cables between PC & Psion
3) Switch On Psion (lines displayed)
4) If you have a system password, wait two seconds and then key it in carefully and press enter
5) In case you are still in an application press ctrl+E
6) press ctrl+L to launch the link to desktop pop-up
7) Press the right arrow button once and then 'enter'
8) Try to connect from your PC
9) If your PC is unable to connect then it could be that your Link To Desktop was not set to 'off' when you switched your machine on. Repeat steps 6-8 on your Psion.
10) When you connect, perform a backup.
You should now be ready to fix or post your machine off for repair !!
If you want to do it yourself, post another message and we can point you in the right direction for obtaining the cable and the instructions.

Hi Wanman,
I am interested in how to fix the screen problem. My 5mx failed me for two times. The first time my warranty period had not been expired, so I could get it fixed for free. But the second time cost me USD200 to get it fixed. I guess I better try to learn how to fix it by myself as I think this problem will happen anytime.

be aware that the cable for sale at portal-pda is for Series 5 only, not 5mx. Check my FAQ at the ULR below for alternative sources.
