I just got a new 5550 brought it home and it will not power up.
It has been charging for about 2 hours now. The manual says it needs between 5 and 30 min. It does not show any light to say that it's charging.
I have pressed the soft reset switch and nothing?????????
Is there a hard reset switch like on the 36XX and 37XX series???
No help from HP until monday :((
Help anyone or did I just get a dud?
Thanks
Can't really tell without being there so it's either a dud, or something simple, like:
is the battery installed properly? No little "remove before use" plastic thingy* keeping the contacts covered?
actually plugged in properly?/hooked up to PC and plugged in properly?
power strip actually on? power strip/outlet actually works?

<<Now if you did a search on hard resets on this forum you would have found the following which works on all Ipaqs unless something has changed since I have been using these:
To hard reset the 5555, you need to hold down both the left-most and right-most application buttons and press the "soft reset" button with your stylus until the screen disappears.>>
but I don't know if a hard reset will matter.
You say the charging light isn't on, and I figure you checked all that other stuff out, so... good luck on the return...

Hi,
Had the same issue.
Really had to press the battery in until i got a loudish, satisfying click-works perfectly now

I've just bought a 4150 and it worked right out of the box, the battery was already precharged (not 100%) but enough to use the iPaq for a few hours.
When on charge, the LED on the iPaq liights to show its charging.
A quick test you could do to check the battery and the charger, unplug the battery from the iPaq and put it in the desktop charger AUX battery position. Does the battery charge now ?

I know it is to late for you since you have already exchanged your iPaq for another unit. On my current 3765 and my previous 3650 there is a tiny sliding door on the bottom that covered a power switch. When new this switch is off and has to be turned on to charge the battery and to use the iPaq. Do not know if current models still have the hidden switch.

5555 did not have a sliding door.

No sliding door. But I did a hard and soft reset....nothing.
It was dead. HP was very good about replacing it,

My 5455 died that way.. No power, not lights during charging.. and nothing can bring it back.. tried everything...
And yesterday my 5555 did the same thing.. it was sitting there collecting dust for maybe a week.. and last night when I try to turn it on.. nothing..so I guess the battery drained.. so ok tried to charge the 5555 and no lights.. so I started to worry that it might have died again.. but after a few minutes of no activity and no charging lights, I pressed the reset again while it's charging and this time a HP logo came up.. and the unit prompt me for a calibration of the stylus.. after all that.. I saw the my main and backup battery werea at 0%.. so I let it charge about 30mins. and find out that my backup were at 40% and main battery still at 0%.. so I removed the charging plug and immediately the whole unit turned off.. so I just leave it to charge about another 3 hours.. and now all seems fine..
Anyone expereinced a rapid blinking charging light before? it was blinking rapidly when the unit is turn on.. and when unit is turned off, it blink like normal.. and anyone know how to activate the battery calibration utility manually? when the battery were low, a messaged popup and say it will start the calibration.. I wonder if I can manually make it recalibrate again..

my first unit would not charge --- brought it back to the store
sometimes the cradle will not charge my h5555 from the usb port
but will charge it from the alternate plug in from the charger transformer.
so when that happens i set it to sync from the usb but plug in the transformer in the back of the cradle.
a third party usb cord from LIL'sync works every time!
go figure....
when i charge the batteries on the stand alone charger the ipaq indicates that the batteries are 40-79% charged even though the charging light indicates the batteries are fully charged.
when i put the "partially" charged batteries into the ipap and connect the charger they reach full charge in a few minutes. I guess the program in the ipaq that indicates charge level is faulty...
