ActiceSync tries to Dialup

Can anybody explain why on my new PC ActiveSync always tries to activate a “Dial Up Connection”. If I cancel the DUN the sync works perfectly well. This did not happen on my old PC running the same OS (XP Pro) with the same version of ActiveSync. I have tried reinstalling ActiveSync and cold booting my IPAQ.

Check in Outlook on the desktop and check connection setting see if you have it set to dial whenever a network connection is not present.

Yes I have in order to start a session when I access the internet via Internet Explorer without having to start a connection manually. This is exactly the same as my "old" setup when activesync didn't try force the connection. All settings seem the same and it syncs OK without the dialup - strange!

Is there a way to get activesync to not ask to dial up? If its not connected to the internet just say o well and not give 5 pop ups giving you the option to connect?
