Hi Gang,
I'm a field tech working on various pieces of telecom gear, turn-up & troubleshooting. I'm trying to get some feedback from anyone out there who is successfully using a terminal emulator (i.e. hyperterminal or procomm type apps) on a PDA (wanting to go with the HP line of PDAs).
What PDAs are you using, what OS, what applications & finally do those USB-to-serial cables (DB9) that I've seen in electronic stores (Belkin or whatever) as well as on eBay have drivers for PDAs that work?
thanx for any feedback or input.

I have not tried it but if you just want to connect to rs-232 devices this cable should work;

And as to what pda, the list on that page should givve you an idea.
And here's a hyperterminal program for pocketpc;

thanx for the URLs answerdude. not having much luck but just got the app installed & just started fooling around with the iPaq.
can't seem to get the term emulator to initiate a VT100 session with a piece of test gear i have... however after removing the iPaq cable from the test gear & plugging a serial cable into my PC & firing up HyperTerm i get the message that another device is talking to the test gear at the moment & it won't connect.
so i think there must be something going on with the iPaq's term emu appy & the gear i am trying to log into, just not seeing anything yet.
do i maybe have to disable that async app to use the usb port on the iPaq as a serial port? if so how do i do that?
thanx

well i got it rawkin finally... the problem was having the iPaq connected to the test gear during it's power up. the test gear must do some kind of baud rate check as part of it's start up & i think the PDA was trying to handshake with the test gear at this point & it was somewhat logged into it but at the wrong baud rate.
anyways it's working now & it's gonna be the ultimate freedom for. gonna head out & test it on some other equipment today.
