Dear 515 Users,

I have a puzzling problem.

I have BackupBuddyVFS installed, which lets me back up my Palm's files to my SD card.

The BackupBuddyVFS launch icon is visible (and can be launched)in my MegaLauncher and Silverscreen application lists...but the icon is NOT visible under Palm's All Screen (which lists all the applications on my Palm). Also, neither McFile nor File Manager sees the BackupBuddyVFS program....even though it's there and working.

Why would the icon be visible under Silverscreen/Megalauncher but not on the main Palm Applications page?

Curious,

Bob

Just an idea, while in silverscreen, drag the icon down to the information button, it will have a little popup window with a checkbox for "hidden". If this is checked, this may be your problem. Cheers

Dear PDASROCK,

Are you saying that the main Palm program can hide icons? I didn't know that.

How does one do that, and how would one undo it?

You can use Filez to modify attributes such as Hidden.

You have a very strange problem. Maybe the Palm launcher thinks it it a database, and not an app.

How many launchers do you have on your Palm? Do they co-exist peacefully? Do you set one as default? I tried YiShow and it Fatal Reset on me, unfortunately it made itself default so I couldn't delete it! I had to Hard Reset to get rid of it :(

John,

Thanks for your input.

I have two launchers on my Palm (MegaLauncher VIP 3.2.2 and the latest Silverscreen). They co-exist together ok, but then again I rarely use them. 99% of the time I just use the Palm software that came with the 515.

When I look at my files with either McFile or File Manager...I only see one copy of the program in question (BackupBuddyVFS)...so I don't know why Megalauncher sees it and Palm doesn't.

If I Delete the program and then reinstall it..then Palm sees it once and Megalauncher sees it twice!

Bob,
It sounds like the invisible apps are on the memory card in the "launcher" folder. Your Launchers see them but the Palm Home screen does not since they are not in RAM. Just an thought.

Doc,

I don't think the "invisible app" of BackupbuddyVFS is on my SD card...though it does backups of everything in RAM to the SD card.

If the BBVFS is not made visible by its ICON how do you find it to launch it?

Doc,

When there was only one icon (visible only in MegaLauncher)...I'd launch it from there.

When I reinstalled the program, I could then launch it from the one visible icon in Palm.... or choose one of the two icons visible in Megalauncher.

I cannot imagine BBVFS or MegaLauncher moving files!!?? That is what it sounds like!
Do the filkes appear on the card when you look at the card with a file manager like myWorkBench or McFile?

Doc,

I think I see what's happening.

BackupBuddyVFS is putting a copy of its BackupBuddyVFS.prc file on my SD card for some reason. Megalauncher and Silverscreen see that prc file on the SD card, and show it on their application screens.

Why BackupBuddyVFS puts a copy of the it's application prc file on the SD card....I don't know.

Bob,
Thought so!

By the way, the rational for the BBVFS on the Card is to give you the tool to return the backedup files to RAM in the event that the Palm is hard reset or by other devious means looses its mind.

Doc,

I know a hard reset erases everything in the main Palm RAM. I didn't know it left the SD card alone and kept it's data intact.

So you're saying that -- in the event a hard reset occurs --- I can then load a program like McFile; use Mcfile to copy BackupBuddy.prc to my main Palm RAM area; and then use BackupBuddyVFS to restore my Palm?

Cool!

Even better: your Palm ought to be able to see BB on the card and run it from there! Can't get simpler than that.
