Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : any 56K modem cards still available?
Hi all,
I've noticed that many of the 56K modem PC Cards supported by netBook are no longer available. Does anyone know if any manufacturer/shop is still selling a compatible modem card?
TIA

Yan, there are plenty of them around on eBay. Personally I wouldn't consider paying the price for one new in the box, especially since they are covered by lifetime warranty.
That's how I got both of mine - my 56k cost me 26 UKP and my V34 was 8 UKP. Both Psion Gold Card brand.

Just checked eBay there's one 56k Gold Card due to close in about 3 hours:

Plus quite a few others following on behind. Going on what's been sold over the last week or so, they're closing at about 19-26 UKP in general, or about 40 UKP for one with 10/100 Ethernet.
Word of caution to anyone interested - if you see one going cheap, make sure the cable is included. They can cost up to 20 UKP to purchase separately.
If anyone needs any advice about buying or selling on eBay, I have a bit of experience.

In my experience virtually all 33k and 56k PCMCIA modems work in the Series 7 and the Netbook - assuming that these modems support the Hayes modem command set. Just a matter of specifying the correct modem intitialisation strings in the setup menu.
If possible go for a modem with a low power consumption. Some of the Psion modems take a *lot* of power (and get very hot!).
Most modems I've tried work fine with the following strings :-
Reset - ATZ
Data Initialisation AT&F1 - add M0 to turn modem speaker off !
