Just hung up with HP tech support and they allege my joypad is broken not because it is a cheap piece of crap, but because of "Excessive Force" used on the button.

I'm ready to Excessive Force somebody at HP!

Anyway, rather than pay $154.00 for the repair, I purchased a replacement button from a store in England for a whopping $17 including shipping.

I'm assuming that it can't be too terribly difficult to take this thing apart and replace it for less money. Anyone have any experience in this?

SoonerGOP, i found your thread. did you have any luck replacing the action button/joystick on your Ipaq 2215? I am experimenting problems with mine and would also like to replace it myself.

The up direction is the only one that seems to work properly.

Yeah --

I found a place on the web from Great Britain where I was able to purchase just the button. It was fairly cheap and easy to do. Just pull the current one out and replace with a new one by snapping it into place.

Can't remember the site name, but it was like ipaqrepair.co.uk or something similar.

Thx, i did find that website, http://www.ipaqrepair.co.uk and found the part...so you don't have to open the ipaq at all? just pull the joystick out and snap in the new one?

So, did you find it helped and made the buttons work, unlike before?
sry if i asking too many questions...just wanna make sure b4 i go taking this thing apart ;)

Well, I didn't have any other issues on buttons -- just the joystick wouldn't work because one of the prongs underneath was broken in half.

If you have issues with one of the other four buttons, I'm not able to tell you about that.
