Tealpoint won't be very happy, though! :p Bokkie 05-22-2004, 02:42 AM Seconds out, round 2. Ding! Ding! Inevitably, there will be an appeal, more wasted time...:( jonasolof 05-22-2004, 02:58 AM So how would Palmone deal with a situation where it can use both systems? It would be interesting to see the U-turn in marketing lingo. reinbeau 05-22-2004, 04:53 AM Originally posted by jonasolof So how would Palmone deal with a situation where it can use both systems? It would be interesting to see the U-turn in marketing lingo. Hopefully there won't be an appeal, and Palmone can just let Graffiti 2 die on the vine. Graffiti 1 has been in use for so long, and as anyone can see from the clamor to return to Graffiti 1, it will be a welcome return. Those that are newer to Palm OS will no doubt be offered something to let them stay with G2 if they want. Ah! That'll keep Tealpoint in business! ;) jshort 05-22-2004, 06:26 AM Since the iQue is my first PDA, what is the difference between G2 and G1 ? Stymyx 05-22-2004, 06:36 AM Originally posted by jshort Since the iQue is my first PDA, what is the difference between G2 and G1 ? G2 was an attempt to make Graffiti "easier" for beginners to learn and use, because it more closely resembles real writing (it was also to placate Xerox, who sucessfully sued Palm over Graffiti 1). However, most long-time Palm users (such as myself) hate G2 BECAUSE of the differences. It's kinda like learning to play golf right-handed, then suddenly being forced to play left-handed. Fortunately, TealSoft's TealScript software (what Ann mentioned) allowed us old G1 users to "switch back" to the older, more familiar G1 style. reinbeau 05-22-2004, 06:47 AM Originally posted by jshort Since the iQue is my first PDA, what is the difference between G2 and G1 ? The two-stroke characters are the biggest problem. I draw a T by placing my stylus to the left top area of the graffiti area, drag to the right a bit, then down. An F is the opposite. The K is drawn by starting at the right top, looping down to the left, up a bit and then looping down to the right, an X is the exact opposite. I'm so good at G1 I just couldn't get used to G2. Whenever I tried to write a lowercase I I ended up with an L in G2. Also, some of the shortcuts don't work with the two stroke letters. All in all it's been much harder for many of us longtimers to adjust to G2, so we've either paid Tealpoint to get Tealscript or reverted back via the replacement of the G1 files. I'm very happy there's a possibility that G2 will go away. rwsmith123 05-22-2004, 08:22 AM Of course those of us who are new to palms such as myself wouldn't want G2 to go away, since we would despise G1 as much as you hate G2. Good point. Here's where a built-in 2-Graffiti system would make sense. That way, the user can decide. Newer users can use G2, while us G1-generation folks can continue with G1. With TealScript, you can actually use BOTH G1 and G2 styles at the same time, and even create your own custom strokes! Maybe the solution would be for palmOne to license TealScript from TealSoft and include it in PalmOS. Wouldn't that be cool? :D reinbeau 05-22-2004, 08:49 AM It surely would be cool. The beauty of Tealscript is that you can modify Graffiti to suit your writing style. That's why I stuck with it instead of just replacing the G2 files with the G1 files. funbob 05-22-2004, 09:56 AM not to mention G2 is sloooow. I constantly found myself outwriting it and getting wrong characters or simply not having the characters how up at all. That was the most frustrating thing about it for me. G1 will keep up no matter how fast I write. zdevone 05-22-2004, 03:53 PM Is TealSoft licensing from Xerox? reinbeau 05-23-2004, 07:22 PM Originally posted by zdevone Is TealSoft licensing from Xerox? Tealscript is its own application. I don't know how they get around the Xerox thing, but it's all above board. petesl 05-24-2004, 12:35 PM I guess I can breathe a sigh of relief regarding the Graffiti police: I've been using G1 on my Garmin since last August. It's easy to do with the files posted here (http://users.wpi.edu/~ahecht/palm.html) . (Click on the link for converting from Graffiti 2 to Graffiti 1. Download Grafitti1.zip and follow the instructions in included text.) Pekkle 05-24-2004, 12:56 PM I love G1, but I also like some of the ideas from G2.. I know it might be possible.. but would be good if they use some of the idea from G2 back to G1.. :) PDA Street
