hi assassin
i keep having to switch because i couldn't send an email out of outlook. they have that stupid animated help paper clip, but he really didn't help too much. there is one thing i'm going to check in the outbox file in outlook. there is a line that's blank which may need my server name for the box. wouldn't it be funny if that was all it was? yes, well i'm not laughing either.
thanks for your patience and help.

It does sound like Outlook doesn't have an SMTP server listed.

If you go into Outlook Express and go to the TOOLS menu I think it is. Look for an item in the menu called ACCOUNTS. Select the MAIL tab and it should list all the accounts. Select your E-mail account and click the properties button.

Click on the Server tab and you should see your POP3 and SMTP servers listed. write those down.

You can now close Outlook Express.

Start up Outlook, and do the same TOOLS - ACCOUNTS.
Highlight your account and select properties. Click on the server tab and check the entries in the pop3 and smtp section. make sure they are the same as the ones in Outlook express.

Forgot to ask, are you getting mail waiting to be sent in your OUTBOX in outlook. If so then the PDA-PC sync is working ok and it is just the server problem above. On mine I wasn't getting the mail appearing in the outbox at all.

ok here we go:
i did some fiddling around as per your instructions and i got to send email. but now i'm not sure if i'm going to get email. there are different passwords for my ipaq using my email. i saw the difference on a screen i was in. can i find the confounded thing again to look into it? no, of course not.
i'm about to dive into it one more time. the error had"couldn't perform task blah, blah ...problem synchronizing inbox...blah, blah.
i must say assassin, you must have an extremely high level of tolerance for dolts. or perhaps a tremendous amount of pity.
Thanks ever so much.

The only place you should need a password is on your incoming server settings in Outlook. TOOLS - ACCOUNTS - MAIL tab - select Account - PROPERTIES - SERVER tab.
