I think these are going to be the two big choices.
there are some pros and cons of each unit. it seems the visor has a bright display but an un upgradable OS.
Also I would like to cruise the web via on of these devices, can I look at any pages or just the "palm friendly" web pages.
Could you folks whom have used the deices before comment on personal experience between the 2 devices?

I have the Prism, my wife has an m500. I use mine for picture albums, games, maps, PocketQuicken, and PIM (of course). My wife uses hers mostly for PIM and Bejeweled. They do what we want.
The Prism is no good in bright light, but I use it indoors more than 99% of the time. The colors are fantastic when used indoors. OS 3.5 is not bad, since I have a MemPlug with PiDirect (simulates OS 4). You can't upgrade to OS 5 on the m5xx anyway, so that should not be a factor.
Of the three, you should just get an m515 and be done with it. It has more memory, is small, and has great battery life.
If you want to cruise the web, you will need a cell phone with IR, as well as data service. I have a cell phone with IR, but AT&T in the Bay area doesn't provide data service :( At least I was able to quickly and easily beam my relevant numbers to it from my Prism.
There are several Palm web browsers out. Some of them are able to view standard web pages. There was a survey recently. I forget where.

what about hooking them up to a LAN? I was wondering what wireless 802.11b equipment I would need?

There is a Xircom 802.11b springboard for a Visor you can get. The recent price is about $99. Look around these message boards. Seems to work great once you get it going. I'm not sure if there is 802.11b for Palm yet.
