I purchased and IPAQ 2210, nice and easy machine to use. Ive got a Nokia 6310i. Both have bluetooth. Can I get them to work so that I can use it for email and the net - can I heck!

I spoke to HP Technical who were next to useless.

Has anyone else had the same problem and can they tell me how they managed to get it working so it connected correctly?

By the way, my phone and my IPAQ do know each other (settings have been recognised and a name for the link has been set up). The problem is a (non-GPRS, Im not on that service) a dial-up recognition and live connection thing...

HELP!

Here's a guide, but I'm not sure if it will work though if your cell provider is on gprs and you want to connect using non-gprs mode.

Thanks. Ive been to this link before but noted that it covers GPRS and my phone doesnt have that access.

Do you know of any non-GPRS help?

Hi,

I have 6310 and Ipaq 5555 - I'm with Orange.

Assuming you are WM 2003 - This is my setup

Modem - Bluetooth Dialup.
Tel No: Number of your ISP exactly as it should be dialed.
UserName and Passwod that would used to connect to your ISP. (For password use the keyboard option to ensure the correct one is entered). Domain is blank.
Advanced Options: Baud rate 1440 (Unless you have high speed data access). Unchecked Wait for dial tone and Cancel is not connected etc.

This should connect you to the internet. Email is different, but should only need to enter your email account name and password and mail POP3/SMTP Server names or addresses.

Hope this help.

Thanks Matt but no joy. You must have the magic touch! (by the way I am using WM2003).

This is what happens when I try to connect...

1. Bluetooth Manager setting is ON

2. My phone is "paired" with my IPAQ 2210 and all is well here

3. I go into Bluetooth Manager and there is an icon shows (its the one I created to pair with my Nokia 6310i), if I go to "Tools" and then "Paired Devices" it shows the specific name I gave to my phone and the phone icon on my IPAQ.

4. If I double tap on the "dialup using..." phone/computer icon (as noted above) the box noting "select a connection to use" asks for a New Connection to be made. I double tap on new connection and then the new connection name and phone number boxes show - requesting completion. I put in a name and then in the phone number box only the number of my ISPs internet connection.

5. I then am taken back to the phone/computer icon screen and then double tap again, my new connection (and assigned name) is visible. I double tap that...

6. It then says on my IPAQ in a smaller box on the screen "dial up using ...." and connecting...

7. On my Nokia 6310i it says "Connect using ....." comes up on the phone - I am asked to either "accept" or "reject". I accept and then the phone shows the normal menu screen and nothing, no further activity on my phone until after about 1 minute the phone says "Disconnected".

8. My IPAQ then shows an "unable to connect..." note and confirms all has failed!

QUESTION: you noted...

I dont get a request for Username etc. When should this occur?

LEt me know if you can fathom out whats gone wrong. Im stumped and even thinking of by a Compact Flash Card at £150 to get on the net! Not happy....

Thanks,

Mike

Have you got your 2210 and 6310i working together?

I managed to pair the devices, and send calender notes and contacts from the phone to my iPAQ. But not the other way around.

What I did was to upgrade the phone software from v4.07 to v5.51. Type *#0000# to see the SW version.

Ive checked and Ive got 5.2 on my Nokia so I would hope this is ok.

Did you read my run down of what I do, did it make sense? Can you see where I am going wrong?

I have read your run down, ant it seems ok to me. I also had an experience the same as yours in point 7-8.

I tried to connect to the internet, making calls and sending contacts and calendar notes to the phone from the iPAQ, but nothing worked via Bluetooth. Using IR instead worked fine.
I also managed to send contacts and calendar notes from the phone to the iPAQ via bluetooth.

You have newer phone software than I had. But I read some place (on a Nokia support page i think) that softwaer version 5.50 or higher was needed to support contact with a WidComm bluetooth adapter.

So after a lot of research, I concluded that my phone needed a software upgrade. And that cured the bluetooth problem.

If my phone had been less than a year I could have got the software upgrade for free in a Nokia service center. But my phone was older than that. I called Nokia customer care, and sent my phone to them with complaint about the Bluetooth stack. And they upgraded my phone for free.

Hi,

The pairing seems like it has been done properly-Just check the properties in the bluetooth manager and well for me i have the authentication de-selected. So now if you go to settings and connections and create a new connection. If you follow the wizard through it should ask you for a name of the connection, the modem (Bluetooth Dialup), a phone number for your ISP, a username and password.Clicking advanced allows you to set baud rate etc.

One other point is when the bluetooth is active and on the Nokia you get the accept/reject message - Thats because the authorisation is active on the phone and maybe the Ipaq. I have this disabled on my phone and Ipaq. On your Nokia go to paired devices and select the pairing. go through the options until you see request conn auth and change to no. On Ipaq see 2nd line of this mesage.

Once connection setup on Ipaq, activate bluetooth, go to settings connection. Go to manage existing connections and tap and hold the connection setup earlier. You should then see a option for connect.

All being well it should connect to Nokia and after a few seconds automatically dial your ISP
