On the Palm Desktop Music, Pictures & Kinoma are not working.
I none of these to even open. Both Music and Pictures Icons are present in the lefthand tool bar but if you click on them you just get a blank screen with a red 'x' in the top left corner. Just like a broken link to a graphic on a web page. Kinoma on the other hand gives this message: "This application requires the QuickTime autoring component. Please run your QuickTime Updater and install this component." I didn't even have QuickTime
on my system at all. So I uninstalled all Palm software and all software from Zodiac (I have backup of my data from previous Palm). Installed Quicktime, reinstalled Zodiac/Palm software, reinstalled updates, etc. and still same problem. Any one have the same problem? Cures? Solutions? These abilitys are 3 of the biggest reasons I bought the Zodiac 2. The only responce from Tapwave over the last 4 days has been. "reinstall the desktop software". I have done this about 7 times so far. With differant variations of usining/not using the updates, having/not having quicktime installed etc. etc. And on top of this I just found out today that when I tap on the bluetooth icon on my Zodiac 2, it tells me none of the software is installed for it. I can't even find anything about the bluetooth software on there CD! Are others having this many problems with Tapwave's products? I've never had any problems with any of the previous 8 Palm's I've owned. They have all worked flawlessly. But my Zodiac seems to have HUGE software problems. I am including a screen shot of the music error.

Am I asking for help in the wrong place? Has no one else had this problem? Tapwave is TOTALY unresponcive. I have asked them for help and there reply is basicly "Thank you for buying a Zodiac. Have a nice day!" I've recived that message about 4 times over the last few days with no mention of the problem I am having.

So far I have:
uninstalled all desktop, palm, sony, clie', handspring, 3rd party Palm OS related, etc. software from my system.

removed all referances to the above from the registry

downloaded the latest of both desktop and handheld software from tapwave & the latest version of Quicktime

installed them all and rebooted

Still the same problem. Click on any of the 3 icons music, pictures or Kinoma and you only get a red 'x' in the right pain (indicitive of a broken link to a picture in HTML). Kinoma still has the pop up error message about needing Quicktime to be updated and the latest version of Quicktime creation components to be installed.
That's been done. Anyone have any ideas? Please!! I am getting desperite. It's getting to the point where I am almost ready to return the Zodiac and demand my money back because it looks like they are totaly unwilling to provide any tech support whatsoever.

So hard to remember exact reading of error messages so... here is a 3rd screen shot showing the error the clicking on Kinoma's icon in the Zodiac's Palm Desktop produces.

Fix found for non-working icons in desktop

Even though when deleting entrys in the registry that could in any way have interfered with a new installation of Palm OS desktop (Tapwaves version spacificly) apparantly the path information for a previous Palm OS destop installation overroad the correct one, and thus when the new install software tryed to register some ocx's it was looking in c:\Programs\tapwave\tapwave music.ocx (&) tapwave pictures.ocx

My system by default installed it in c:\Palm insted.

So I just had to manualy register those two ocx's and the problem was fixed. Something to keep in mind if you ever have an add on application for Palm Desktop malfunction.
