Has anyone else had bad experiences buying kit from expansys.co.uk ?
A few months ago I ordered some screen protectors for my Ipaq, which were quoted as 1 day delivery and they took 7 weeks to come.
Unfortunately my Ipaq 2210 side grips have failed and Expansys seem to be the only UK supplier of the Aluminium grip replacements so I was forced to go back to them. I was quoted 3 days delivery a month ago. Their web site varies the estimate daily between 7 - 8 days, and they don't answer my emails.
Has anyone else had similar problems or have I just been unlucky ?
Andy
:(
PS Does anyone know if there is an alternative source for Aluminium grips in the UK ?
I just placed an order for some H2210 Side Grips.
They said "1 DAY ESTIMATE"
Straight after my order it said "7 DAY ESTIMATE"
I sent them and email and got a reply saying that "7 Days" was ONLY an estimate. I just replied now saying that if they didn't give me an accurate estimation within one week I was cancelling the order (because of reading your post)
I second your question about other sources of the side grips.
£25 seems a bit expensive.

Hi tap2, thanks for letting me know I'm not alone.
At least you got a reply to your email. Mine are being ignored completely.
I hope you have better luck than me.
Cheers,
Andy
You could phone up their office and complain.

I did think of phoning but didn't think it would achieve much. I don't think customer satisfaction is much of a priority for them. A good shout on the phone would probably make me feel better though ;)
Cheers,
Andy
If I were in charge of a company like that I'd make sure that customer satisfaction is THE TOP priority.
I've ordered over 100 items from Play.COM in the last three years. I was so impressed with the customer care, support and prices. Once a DVD was lost in the post and they hapilly sent me a replacement - free of charge.
From the second I typed in my credit card number On expansys, I didn't like it. Their page seemed dull, and unproffesional. After my order, a page came up that was something like -
Thank youforyour Orderwith Expansys.
Youpayed withA confirmation email has been sent toOnce again thank you for your order.
They're so stupid they've ignored my last email. I asked them to dispatch half of my order now, and agreed to pay an extra £2.80 (which is a disgusting price to ship two grips of the weight of about 10 grams within the UK)
I'll be avoiding them in the future unless I have to. I hope play.com get into PDA accessories.

I know what you mean about the feeling of quality that some companies have (and Expansys don't). I only went back to them a second time because there doesn't appear to be any alternative provider of Aluminium grips in the UK. Next time, if they are the only supplier, I think I'll just go without.
I've never used play.com before but I'll look them up on your recomendation.
Cheers,
Andy

For what its worth we use them for most of our PDA bits and so far have had fast and efficient service. The same with the .ie branch

Having said what I just said, I was "kind of" impressed as I emailed them and got a response 10 minutes later and my order was dispatched (a different order - not the grips)

I thought it was just me!
Read this exchange with one of eXpansys customer handlers!
My initial enquiry...
"Hi,
have been to your excellent website and am about to purchase the Audiovox Tri-Band GSM/GPRS CF card.
My current mobile service is GSM and I have an IPAQ running PPC2003. I dont want to use GPRS, will this mean I will not be able to use my IPAQ because it says it comes with drivers for PPC 2000/2002?
Thanks..."
their response...
"Dear Sir,
If you read the full description we do actually state the following;
NB: Audiovox offer a GPRS software upgrade for Pocket PC 2003 users - click here to download.
Regards
eXpansys"
my reply to that...
"thanks, I understand that, all I was asking was "is the gsm compatible with ppc2003?"
their response to that...
"Yes I understood, the answer is there for you."
my response...
"??? If you understood then why didnt you reply "GSM supports IPAQ running PPC2003"?
Note: I do not/will not be running GPRS - GSM only.
Is that clear and can you confirm...?
p.s. if its too difficult to answer give me your office number and I'll phone you to explain!"
and finally their response...
"Dear Sir,
The software upgrade is available for ppc 2003 as mentioned on our web site information on this product, therefore that does confirm that it is compatible with ppc 2003.
Regards
eXpansys"
Crap customer service with a bad attitude. How they manage to do business with anyone, certainly mis-managing customers expectations, I dont know. The only good thing was this happened the same day as my enquiry!
Mike
They sent the grips on Friday and arrived this morning.

I gave up and cancelled my order. I rang HP and had a free replacement set within 24 hours of the call:D
I may get an aluminium set when these wear out, hopefully they will be available from other vendors by then.
Cheers,
Andy

Guys
Last week I bought a bluetooth headet (ericsson hbh60) with expansys for the cheapest price i could find on the net. It was delivered the next day and I can't speak more highly of their service - I was pretty surprised to read this thread as a result.
And just in case you were wondering, I do not work for them and neither does anyone i know or am related to (:
Incidentally i also bought a downloadable hack (for $3 from Handango) that enables me to channel my ipaq 1940's audio to the BT headset and therefore listen to MP3s through it. Quality is pants, but its listenable.

Daveeeeed,
I'm pleased you got good service - if your personal experience of expansys is good, then I can understand that you are surprised about the complaints. My experience is that they are very poor and I wanted to highlight this to warn others to avoid them, or at least have an reasonable idea of what they may encounter.
I won't be using them again, based on past experience, but I don't think they'll worry too much about that. ;)
Cheers,
Andy
I'll quite happily make another order with them BUT ONLY if the item is in stock.

........guess you only generally hear about the foulups. I ordered a Proporta Aluminium case and screen protectors. The screen protectors weren't in stock {I missed this detail whilst placing the order: my fault]. I rang up and asked for a split shipping as I wanted the case ASAP - no problem. Don't have a problem with the extra cost either - they've got to employ someone to do all the admin and fekking about over and above their normal service. Anyway, the case arrived next day. Rang up a few days later as checking with the site showed still no protectors in stock - found an alternative product in stock, rang up changed the order [2nd time now] alternative arrived next day. Polite, courteous and efficient.
I WILL be using them again................
