I would like to keep all the passwords for my web sites under a seperate user name with a security code but can't seem to get it to keep them absolutly secure. all I (or anyone who were to find my palm) have to do is go to view>click show private records and shazam, no password required, There I am laid out in graffic detail. Maybe I'm missing something. tried numerous ways/names/restarts etc... All advice appriciated. Thanks, michael

Go to the security application, if there is no password installed, you can do so there. Cheers

if you've already done this, or want extra security, try getting teal lock or some other 3rd party security app. theres tons of 'em.

I'm half way there.
Had been trying to secure both the PDA and the PC version which I use equally as much. I did succesfully secure the PDA but no luck on the PC app. It's still very vulnerable if someone were to use my machine besides myself. So far I have never kept any critical info on my PC but it would only be necessary if I want to keep my pswds on my palm. I really only want to secure their app. on the PDA (successful) and PC(not there yet). Thanks for any input

Take a look at these: CryptoPad, SafeMemo and ReadThis, all are on Palmgear.com. They all have virtues and vices. I like ReadThis but have used CryptoPad and find it stable and it accomplishes all of what you have suggested were your needs and concerns.

Tools/Options/ then the security tab on desktop verson 4.1 will leave you with a checkbox that should do what you want. Cheers

Some free, but basic password storage apps:
YAPS - 128-bit encryption, 5 data fields per item.
TopSecret - 128-bit encryption, each item is like a notepad note, the desktop app cost $ but the handheld app is free.
Don't store anything critical without encryption. The Palm security is easy to break and data is transmitted and stored as plain text when HotSync'ed to a PC

Ultimate irritations
Downloaded the 10mb desktop ver 4.1, installed and find I still get into another users', supposedly secure records without it requiring a password. I get the warning after clicking "hide records" that I'll need to enter a password to get back in. But weather or not i restart all I need to do is click "show hidden files" it is happy to open right up , no password needed.
arrrgg. Getting a little mad at myself for not seeing whatever it is that I'm missing. Thanks for the reference to the encryption apps. I may be going there if I can't get this down. Once again nearly any advice gladly tried.

I have been cruising around my desktop program a little, and I don't see any way to set a password in it, so, I think it may be set by whatvever password you have on your handheld, which makes it easy.
All you have to do, is go to the main screen in your palm, go to the secrity application, it will have a little box at the top right of the screen with a little box with "Unassigned" in the middle, click on it, it will take you through the password process. If it says assigned, then maybe you need to sync with your pc to get the password to it.
John is right on, palm security is very weak, so if you really, really don't want anyone messing in your stuff, get something else. On the other hand, once you lock your palm, you can't activate any cracking programs or anything, so you could just lock it any time you leave it someplace.
As a nother quick tip, you can go to preferences/shortcuts and make your password a shortcut, I put my 10+ digit password in in under a second. Cheers
P.S. Guru huh? Maybe, guru-nerd:p ...

Trivia:
If you forget your Palm password, do a Hard Reset then HotSync. Your data will come back, but your password will be gone. This is useful if you locked your Palm and can't get back in.
Does this mean the password is not stored in the Palm Desktop? I certainly doesn't HotSync back.

On the PC when you want to use the password, just go to your palm desktop, tools---options---then press the security tab. Just put a checkmark beside Require password for palm desktop data.
On your palm, you can set a security code but have the option not to use it. Go to Security, assign your password (on the next HotSync it will be transfered to the PC to be used in the Palm Desktop). Now its up to you if you lock your palm. Just click the appropriate box.

So my saga continues. thanks so very much to those who have given some great input re security.
It seems that the handheld only can be assigned to one user.(?) When I assigned a password to the pda for my general/primary use and then put my sensitive info on the desktop under a different (secondary) user name to keep it better organized, my secret/secondary stuff would be shown unsecured and my general info is password protected.
If I want to assign a secondary user (pswd/security files)for my pda and give it a seperate pswd is this possible? looked but even though the desktop app has seperate users I can't see any way to do it to the pda. I think this will end my journey if it can be done. otherwise it seems that only one user (the primary)on the desk top app is secured Thanks once again, Michael

Well here is the final word straight from Palm. first my question, Then their reply. Guess i can't get there from here. Thanks for everybodys help. Michael
"Apparently the pda can only secure the data for the primary assigned user and has no option to recognize a second secure user. This is the case, as I can assign a password under my user name from the pda which then secures only the info under that name in the desktop app. But as soon as I try to access another user in the desktop app it will reveal all "secured docts by choosing "show all hidden files" without it requesting a password. Can only one user in the desktop app be protected? Are all info/users in the desktop app lumped under one PDA user/security code?"
Palm inc. reply:
"I understand that you wish to seek information regarding the password feature in Palm(TM) Desktop software.
Michael, please be informed that the password is only assigned to the User name on your Palm handheld. When you synchronize the data to Palm Desktop software, you will be prompted with password only for that User name and not the other User names in your Palm Desktop software."
