I write in shock, annoyance and disgust at how this is meant to be the centre of PDA owner communities.
Seems that is is centred around PDA's i'd expect some people are connecting through there PDA over a remote connection.
Now some background about the technology the biggest part of the mobile userbase will be using to connect to your site.
Most people will be using GPRS to connect, this is a mobile service equivalent in speed to about that of a 56k modem. Your not charged for how much time you spend online but instead how much data you send or receive. This makes it perfect for IM use and a whole host of other things you may want to do mobily.
Now given that GPRS is charged for by how much data you send or receive and that some users may want to use there PDA along with GPRS to connect to your site may I ask why the home pages for each of the sections must be so HUGE. Like 120kb for the Psion place one. Whats worse is its all set out a massive table which cant be displayed properly on some devices and takes an AGE to display on a Psion device. (about 3 MINUTES on my Psion Revo +)
So after my disgust at the size of the pages I looked round for a mobile/PDA/text only version and found nothing. When I had logged on mobily I had been optomistic of finding a suitable way for mobile users to get onto the site. In disgust of finding massive pages which cost a lot of money to download instead of my intended browse round I simply posted my message and took my mobile experience to more accomodating sites.
I amongst other people are shocked to find that a place which finds itself the heart of PDA users communities does not even accomodate for the userbases it wishes to support.
Id very much like to see a text only version or a lite version or SOMETHING to allow mobile users a sensible way to connect to the service.
