I dislike VAIO and SONY Handheld Products. They all have such high potential but are hugely limited. For example, Sony just confirmed a 20GB VAIO Music Player, they described it as an "IPOD-KILLER." I was very interested, especially at the design - but then I found out it ONLY supports ATRAC3 Compression. BIG MISTAKE Sony. If it supported MP3 and OGG, Then I'd have definitely probably have bought it. Same with PDAs. A Friend of mine (or enemy) has a Clie UX50. Without a doubt it looks stunning, but I dislike it to my H2210 for the same reason. It only supports Memory Stick Pro, It only supports U-CLASS Bluetooth, it only plays ATRAC3 files etc Don't judge a book by it's cover. Sony devices may appear great, but in fact - they're not that good at all. Pekkle 05-27-2004, 03:39 PM Sony always like to create their own standards.. look at Beta vs. VHS and now the CD vs. MD. Sigh.. When will Sony listen? I really don't believe they are dumb.. but THEY ARE! h1930 05-27-2004, 05:47 PM It's all about money....they can do it. They will probably be one of the 1st to sell this mini computer (I think). I think the price conversion from yen to US dollars is like $1700 for the U70 and $1500 for the U50... I think. But those prices don't really sound that high. Naa...I don't think I want to buy one until the price drops a lot, until it is loaded w/way better hardware, has a good camera, video cam, qwerty keyboard, thinner, etc. But that won't be till quite awhile from now... Minnion 05-28-2004, 03:14 AM What the hell is this doing here, this is an iPAQ forum. :D h1930 05-28-2004, 06:20 AM lol ah well... i thought people would like the idea... I had a sony mp3...er handheld music player with the ATRAC3 compression and it was annoying as hell. It is a shame they are so anal like this because they do make some nice products. Lex 05-30-2004, 08:36 PM Wayyyy too doggone expensive. Not even tempted. Do you hear me Sony? Price matters. tap2 05-31-2004, 05:19 PM Excuse my impatience but... What the F*** is the point??? We have Desktops (for desk) We have Laptops (portable desktop) We have Pocket PCs (carryaround computer) Why do we need ANOTHER type of computer. Waste of time/money. Just like Tablet PCs, they'll be useless. AnswerDude 05-31-2004, 11:52 PM How about this new Sony MP3/video player (Sony Vaio HMP-A1 PVP), 20gig hard drive, 3.5 " color screen , mp3 that does NOT require ATRAC. mpeg2 and mpeg4 video. 13 x 7.6 x 2.2cm, 250g., about $600 in japan, on sale june 26 http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/05/27/sony_mp3_vid_player/ http://www.i4u.com/article1618.html http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/337/C2876/ tap2 06-01-2004, 05:03 AM On Sony's website it quotes that it ONLY supports ATRAC??? AnswerDude 06-01-2004, 09:13 AM Originally posted by tap2 On Sony's website it quotes that it ONLY supports ATRAC??? Is it on English site? This is not VGF-AP1 Vaio Pocket. Considering it's not even out in Japan yet, the only one i see is on japanese site, I can't read japanese. http://www.sony.jp/products/Consumer/HMP/ Here's another mention from PCWorld; http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,116328,00.asp h1930 06-01-2004, 04:44 PM Hey I think these mini-PCs are a great idea. I think I would buy one in the future. The type of people who would buy these PCs would depend on their lifestyle. I would use them for note taking, reading, studying... and all with applications that are already w/the PC and not the Pocket PC... what do you guys thinkg? PDA Street
