hi everyone.
first time caller...*lol*

i just got my ipaq a few weeks ago (H3850--- my first ever PDA).

i'm loving it, but i have found the first thing out about it that is somewhat disappointing.

i have gads of "contacts" in my contacts folder on Outlook, and today i finally decided to put them into sub-folders on my desktop. i just naturally ASSumed my ipaq would sync the new sub-folders and put the contacts in the newly created subfolders, BUT IT DIDN'T!

i contacted a guy in our IT department and he said the ipaq doesn't recognize sub-folders in contacts.

i refuse to believe this. do any of you know how to get the ipaq to recognize subfolders of contact lists?

many thanks.

from the best of my knowledge, it doesn't. however, it does recognize categories. instead of placing them in sub-folders, place them in the default location (where they normally belong) and give them all categories. this is my suggestion. I'm just trying to be helpful as i see that 56 some odd people have viewed this topic w/o a reply of any kind.

cheers,

Yes, Broken is right. That's the best way to do it. Create specific categories in your Outlook/Outlook Express phone book and the iPAQ will see them and categorize all contact through them. That way you can choose between browsing contact either by name or by category. Works fine for me. I guess there might be third party software to categorize contacts the way you suggest, but honestly i don't think it's worth the extra effort/money.

I am not sure exactly how this work but I found this download on Microsofts PocketPC site.

http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2002/opcs.aspx

It is called Pocket Contact Synchronizer 1.2.

Someone here might know more about it but it sounds like it will allow multiple contact folder syncronizing. I have been planning on trying it since I also use mutiple contact folders on my Outlook 2002.

Hope this helps.

thanks all. the category solution should work just fine, i guess.

i didn't even know that option existed.
if it'll let me create new categories, i'll be 110% a happy man!

great board!

Has anyone tried the Pocket Contact Synchronizer listed above? DOES it sync multiple folders in outlook onto your PDA?
