Hi, Y'all!

I've just made my first investment in a Palm. I've purchased the inexpensive Zire from Palm. For what I want, it's great except the fact it is not backlit. And since the type is so small, having the backlit screen would be good. But . . . I'll manage.

My question is really from my 15-year-old daughter. She wants to download games, etc., to play on my Zire. Is that possible wtih the Zire, and if so, where do I find the games and what specifications do I need to look for when downloading. And I guess the "how" question would be good, too, since all I know how to do is hot-lync from my pc with the Franklin software that came bundled with the Palm.

Thanks much.

Darryl

Welcome to the wonderful world of pda's. I have not worked with the Zire yet, but I don't see any problem with installing games. First thing you need to do is download a few. PDAStreet has some awesome links. Personally, I recommend Blocks as a great freeware program. Next, you need to install it. To do this, go into Palm Desktop, click on install, click on install new application, select the apps you want installed, and HotSync.

This should be all you need to do. Look around at some of the other forums for other people's recommends.

There are free games here on palm blvd as well as on palmgear.com

Most downloads are in zip format, so you will a program to unzip the files, then install the .prc file as instructed in the previous post.

I'd recommend sticking to card games though because many of the "action" games use the four buttons found on most models of the palm but not on the zire.

Have fun, pda's are a great tool as well as a nice distraction with the games.

I did not mean to imply that this is the only place to find pda downloads. This is certainly a good place to start though. Maybe even the best place (need to make the mods happy). :D Additionally, I figured most people would be aware that the majority of things download in compressed form. I guess its not safe to assume--thanks granny.

Thanks so much for your prompt replies to my inquiry abuot dl'ing games, etc., to the Zire.

I'll print off the info and let my daughter have a go at it.

As an aside, I asked her the other would she like the Zire or none, and her answer was, "none." Interesting.

Thanks again!

I don't care for eurocool a whole lot. Would be better if I was European though. How about tucows.com? Give that one a try.

PalmGear has a huge software selection, but is really slow from my computer.

Eurocool has ratings. You don't want to waste time with really lame programs. I don't think Eurocool is based in Europe.

JohnKes,

I apologize. eurocool has a European link that I found useless. It has been a long time since I checked them out. Reason being, I thought they were strictly european. Sorry about the confusion. For anyone else following this thread, my mistake.
