It seems that when I do a search, it searches each topic as a whole, and then gives me a topic as a result.

For large topics this is quite unsuitable. All you know is that what you want is in that topic, and you have to manually read all the posts to find it. Is there any way to search within individual posts (i.e. all keywords must be present in the same post), and then return an individual post as a result?

Also is there a way to link to an individual post? I don't see any links when the post is displayed.

Some recommendations for you:

Under "Search Options" refine to the particular forum where you believe your post to be, and also select "Show results as posts" - the default setting returns the result as the entire thread.

For the search terms use several keywords, separating each one by "AND" (without the quotes).

These steps should considerably improve your search results.
