lllxe woes

My palm lllxe's screen is almost faded out and faint when I first turn it on. It gets a little clearer after it has been on a while and after it gets physically warmer but not up to what it used to be . Any Ideas???

sounds like you may need a new screen. Find one at ********hightech.com.

Sounds like the little potentiometer that controls the contrast is getting dirty. Temperature does affect the impedance of the device and that results in changes in the contrast. Try rolling the contrast wheel from one end of its travel to the other a few times.

PS: A lose cable from the screen to the mother board can also bring about this "look" but the fact that yours is temperature related points to the contrast wheel on the back.

I forget if a IIIxe has a contrast wheel or software contrast control. If it has a wheel, perhaps the potentiometer is dirty. Spin it all the way one way then spin it back.

Or perhaps the display cable is loose. You would have to open the unit to re-seat the cable. ********HighTech.com has videos on how to open a Palm.

:) Boy I feel about 2ft tall!! I sure didn't see that little wheel!! My only excuse is that I didn't get a manual with it....... Yes, I'm on my way to download the manual right now.

The giveaway was that the potentiometer is sensitive to temperature. I'm glad you mentioned temperature.

My PalmPro was terribly sensitive to temperature - I had to adjust it throughout the day (cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon). It was so annoying that I had to upgrade.
