I currently have a Tungsten E that I really enjoyed until it started whining on me. Now, the whining has gotten so bad my ears ring for hours after I turn off the E. Since my 90-day warranty ended just before the whining started, I find that the cost to repair it (if Palm will even do that- they claim the whine is normal!), is almost as much as buying a new unit. So I'm in the market again for another Palm device.

I am currently looking at Palm's Tungsten T3, C and Sony's UX40. Does anyone have any arguments for or against any of these models? Obviously, one of my primary concerns is whether or not these units whine, too.

One of the huge complaints about the UX40/50 line is screen whine. It's apparently loud enough that it distrubs people who sit next to you. If the T|E screen whine bothered you, the UX40 would probably make you batty.

I haven't heard any compaints about screen whine with the T3. I don't either of these machines so I'm only repeating what I have read.

Hey,

If you do go with a TungstenT3, then make sure that you test the unit out first in store before making the purchase. If, for some odd reason or another, you get the high-pitched sounding T3's, that might be bothersome to you as well. Some say that they can hear that noise from a couple feet too.
