I bought a m500 last week, and downloaded the new palm os 4.1 for m500 from palm's support site, and I followed direction to extract zip file and run flash tool...but when it get's to the final update part, the NEXT button always gray, I just cannot click to continue.

I don't know why, but I'm pretty sure I followed the direction from the manual. First run HotSync, second click restart to restart my palm, but then I waitting for the NEXT button to be avaliable, but for a long time...(Around 10-15 min)... It still gray, and my palm automaticly closed for saving power...

Turn the m500's power on, nothing happend, and the update tool left a flashprep program on the palm, click it sad only can run with the flash tool...

Doh... What happend to my palm? Is that something I did wrong to update the os? someone have such experience please teach me how to update...... I'm in a headace.... ~>_<~

[Palm m500, 64mb sd card, win2k, palm desktop 4.1, usb.]

Please help...
Thanks a lot.

are you currently using any software that has it's own backup control (backupbuddy, some document-editors)? if so try setting them to sync everything, or remove them, then try again.
also try removing any extra storage units.

if there's still nothing happening (500-series update can take several minutes after backing up before continuing!!! make sure before doing this it really doesn't do anything) try flashing using debug mode:
while pressing scroll-down button press the reset, after a few seconds release the scroll-down button. after a short while a tiny square in the top-left corner should start blinking (if not retry), place your palm back into the cradle and restart the flashtool.

You have not filled in the "location" in Your identity, so nobody can know, whether You are in USA or somewhere else, and this is important in this matter!
If Your Palm is an US-english OS, something is wrong with the unit; If it is the international (EFIGS) model, no upgrade is possible until Palm at length takes the trouble to provide elementary service to their international customers.

Ifanus,
I hope by now you have followed Vollie's advice and run the upgrade in Debug Mode (some 505 units require holding down both scroll buttons). You may need to go into "Advanced" too, but lets hope the debug was what you needed.
I also hope your unit is not one of the multilanguage EFIGS units as jacques has pointed out.

I strongley encourage you to call Palm Tech and let them know that their software upgrade was bad news for your Palm. I think if you call they will work with you; they have with others that had similar problems.
Best of luck,
Doc

Reinstalling your Windows OS indicates that you had some problems in your Registry Files. THere have been a number of postings in recent months that involved the Palm Desktop Registry getting messed up. Very strange!
