My palm froze up where I was unable to tap anything and get it to respond. I did a reset on the back of the unit, not sure if that is a hard or soft reset. Can anyone tell me the difference? Now when I power up all I get is the screen that says PALM powered and nothing else happens, any help anyone can provide me with would be greatly appreciated. I can emailed at robraj@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance.

Here are the types of resets:
http://205.141.210.148/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=47,E=0000000000414554043,K=3277,Sxi=3,useTempl ate=Case.tem,CASE=887
Try them in this order:
Soft
Warm
Hard
If these don't work, you might have to try opening the unit and pulling the battery connector off for a few minutes.

Thanks for the help, the warm reset got me back up but now whenever I tap anything the palm doesn't respond. Any ideas on what's doing that? If I push the function buttons it will go to calendar, tasks, notes (but notes gives me an error message "data storage of the handheld is full) I can go to the funtions but I can't do anything when Im in then.....

Time for a hard reset. Take a good backup first as all your data will be erased. Test your Palm to make sure everything works OK and the do a restore. It sounds like the file system has gottne corrupted and a hard reset should cure it.

Hard Reset, with all data gone, still showed problems? Or did you Hotsync right afterwards then get problems?
Warm Reset restarts the basic PalmOS but does not restart extension programs. You may have a corrupted extension program somewhere.
Tell us if you still have problems right after a Hard Reset .

Ok, here is the strange part. Once I have done the Hard Reset and hit the up button for yes to erase all data. When I get the setup screen. I can tap anywhere on the screen and nothing happen. I hit the function buttons and they don't do anything either! I hit the reset in the back and it asks me to tap the screen to calibrate the stylus and the doesnt work.

Check to see if there is junk (dust balls, etc.) between the screen and the frame. This would cause the screen to register some kind of contact, and confuse the Palm. Otherwise, contact Chris Short at ips@chartermi.net for repairs.

It sounds like the ribbon cable between the screen and the mtoherboard has come loose. If you feel confident enough, just take the srews off the back and open up the machine. You should see a ribbon cable that goes to a slot on the motherboard. Make sure this is fully seated and the levers on either side are fully down. Close up the machine and do another hard reset and see if the screen starts responding.
If you don't feel confident doing this or the screen still doesn't respond, it's time for a repair as John suggested.

You are brave to take your Palm to the beach. Which beach did you go to?

I am from Thailand, which has some nice beaches.
Perhaps a Palm is better than a laptop at the beach - more resistant to sand, and not as tempting to thieves.

I can't justify the $$ for a laptop either. I have a Visor Prism and a Tapwave Zodiac2. My wife has an m500. My best friend has an m515.
I like the size of the m5xx. Good functionality, good battery life. The m505 screen is a bit dim compared to the others. OS4 is still good - most Palm programs will run on it. Don't know if you upgraded to OS4.1? It is worth the hassle but the upgrade program does not run on WinXP. See:
