After having my Ique for 10 months, I regret to inform myself I need an RMA after resisting and enduring all those inconvenience I had w/ my Ique (cause I love you Ique).
Things I had to lived with and resisted RMA (R3 ver on mine) are screeching sounds, internal antenna locks/hang up, unxplain soft reboot/reset by itself, LCD will sudden hang up while navigating and shut off by itself (battery is fully charged n using external power) and other tids n pieces.
Today Saturday being out of town for a week now, my beloved Ique died while driving downtown San Francisco. After navigating for an hour, my unit suddenly hangs up and froze then it shuts itself off. I did the soft reset/hard reset combo so many times but to no avail it wont reboot at all even though its connected to the external source and the battery is still fully charged! I guess the LCD panel or its digitizer is completely "dead" this time.
My problem is I don't know how to get home!!! huhuhuhu... The lesson here I guess is always have a hard copy of maps to your destination everytime you will go for a vacations. I totally relied on my Ique for navigations and maps on this vacation of mine that I didn't ordered any "quick trips" from AAA that I had been doing for the last 15yrs!!
Well I was thinking passing by Garmins office in Kansas on my way back to Chicago to replace my Ique.... hmmpp if I only know the way to get there in the first place!

I am Chingacachook, Last Of The iQuehicans.
I still have mine from September 2003. I do have some irritations and I think I should RMA it, but I can't actually do without it.

mine is from sept 2003. I've never had to sent it for RMA. All my problems were due to my card or clumsey installed programs. the Que always ended up to be good.

Mine is from August 2003, 9020xxxx, and without problems since I bought it. It has been my loyal servant for nearly a year. As well as being solid on its own part, this forum has provided me with to tools to avoid some of the drawbacks from the original release. I've not had any problems that would suggest an RMA and hope that doesn't happen.

Had my iq since September 2003 with no problems. But I do not use the internal antenna which seems to cause the most problems.

Ordered mine in March 2003 from TVNAV. Darrel shipped it to me the first week of August 2003. I have used it almost daily since that time including four road trips of 1500+ miles. I also use it on every commercial flight where I can get a window seat.
I have had two or three soft resets, a couple of screeches, and no hard resets. I use the external antenna for all automobile trips but I also use the internal antenna quite a bit.
Once I found a comfortable way to increase its usage time while away from a charger (external battery pack), I ran out of things to complain about.
It must be about time for this First Generation iQue to make me sorry for speaking so highly of its reliability.

Mine, from Aug. 2003, had an RMA for the flimsy pin coming loose, but if I hadn't resisted buying the beanbag gadget the poor thing wouldn't have been hurled across the dashboard those several times on our first long trip in September and the pin probably would still be hanging on. So I'm saying the RMA is really my own fault. Mine's a 9021xxxx. I do hope the next version improves on that plug. This forum has saved me from various other problems I probably would have caused for myself.

I have an iQue (could you imagine?), and I have three friends with iQues. Three of us are on #2 (well, Kjell is actually on #3, but he spoiled one by getting it wet on his BMW bike).
Only one is original, as far as I know, but he got his a week and a half ago, and then immediately went for a vacation trip through Europe.
For all I know, he may be lost forever.

My Ique serial # start w/ 9020 XXXXX and I assumed one of the early version made back in summer 2003. It served me well bringing it w/ me many times on those long trips. It travel 1/2 around the world to Asia and back home in the States. I had a complete saved track of those trip, from airplane route to trail hikings.
Love using it especially on the airplane seeing your tracks and your speed and does amaze myself just how fun it is. I will definitely miss mine. I hope the replacement unit is more reliable than the original.

Mines September 2003, and apart from a few screetches I've had no problems a soft reset didn't cure. Also know 4 other people which ique which are all from around the same time and all are still original.

Bought in December of last year. Internal antenna died in January. Found out it would work with an external antenna in February. I've been using it too much to RMA it.

December 2003, here never had a problem that couldn't be solved by a soft reset.

Thinking about it, one of my friends, who did RMA, didn't really have to. That was when the Egnos-related bug wasn't well known, so he thought his unit broke down, when it refused to run with GPS. But it turned out that it was nothing that NonVolUtil couldn't cure, so that problem wasn't related to hardware.
R3 cured it definitely.

Nov, 2003, NO problems, best money I ever spent. Other than wishing for more internal memory, I love it more than my wife as she has too much memory even though I am now a sweet kind man with just a few hard resets.......

Hello,
I have had mine since they first cam out (serial #90200***).
I use it daily as a PDA. It has worked well as a GPS in my car using the internal antenna and on my boat using the Glisson.
I have no complaints.

I have had several problems with my Q (circa Oct 2003), but she has managed to insinuate herself into every aspect of my life and I have never gotten up the nerve to send her away.
She does a soft reset just about every day. Sometimes twice. She insists on taking naps that only an entire battery drain and then hard resets will get her out of. She's done that about 6 or 8 times.
She will often freeze, requiring a soft reset, when my SO tries to route her somewhere. I figure she just likes me best. :D
I have invested in Backup Man to automatically back up her brains to her backpack (SD card) so the hard resets are not so traumatic for me. The soft resets are part of her personality and only occasionally does she shriek at me in irritation.
Her latest trick is to report that her battery is NEVER full. I am keeping an eye on that one. If she doesn't straighten up, or starts reporting even less battery power, even when I know she has been charged fully, I will have to break down and send her away. Hopefully, she will read this on the next hot-sync and straighten up as I really can't bear the thought of sending her away.

I've had mine since Aug. 2003 and have had no major problems with it. Only one screech while on the road and 2 while doing hotsyncs after installing new programs.
I'm in the process of building a new house in Citrus County Florida and Betty seems to have a problem with addresses there; she gets the road correct but is off on the actual address. In the case of the motel in Crystal River, she is off by 9 miles! Her guess at the location of the storage area where our stuff is stored is off by about a mile.
My biggest complaint has to do with the iRock transmitter; it is too easily overwhelmed by local stations. It's time to upgrade to a better transmitter with more frequency options.

Cheval,
Call Garmin for an RMA. Insist that you temporarily put the replacement on your credit card until they get your old one back. This way you will never be without an iQue and you will be assured of getting a new one instead of a refurbished one. Go ahead, you deserve it and you should be much happier with the new one.

The first iQue I bought was bad. The internal antenna stopped working. I returned it to the store and bought a street pilot. The SP worked great but was too bulky for constant travel, so I returned it and got another iQue.
My iQue and I are very happy together right now.

Mine is from September and I just finally sent it in for RMA last week. Fought it as long as I could. It was resetting itself 4-5 times a day and locking up regularly. So, now I am without and can't wait to get it back!

< Any original Ique owner out there who didn't have an RMA yet?>
Haven't had one yet..My Betty is ser 9026xxxx, 11?mo old, Got her from Amazon~$430 or thereabouts. Worst fault:~1/week lock-up/soft reset, prob static from slothful handling... The 'treacherous' SanDisk' 512Mg card has been fine, typically scores VFSM 480-530, depending on the lunar tides or sumpin. The Q is utterly dependable. I took her riding this weekend, asked her to find a 'shortest', 'no-highway' route from A->B. Which she nailed perfectly...one beautiful Virginia, rural, 2-lane after another. My riding mates, following fearfully along through strange paths, ended up thinking that I had to be the 'roaddawg' of the century. No RMA needed for that gal. Taking her to visit GB tomorrow, no fear (except for which the side of the road....) Bill H

I have had mine since November 2003 with no problems.... Well OK to be honest this is my 2nd iQue but my 1st one committed suicide by jumping out my car window at ~25mph so I cannot really blame Garmin for that. Yes the bean bag kit does make a difference.
