I hope that one of you Psion experts can help me with this recent problem. I connect my 5mx via a Nokia 6210, to collect Emails or surf when I am not at my desktop, and have been doing so for the last two years without a hitch. I use rechargeable batteries, and they recently ran down when on holiday. After replacing them, the machine reset itself. Since this I am unable to achieve a connection, and see the following error information:

First message:
Program Closed
Program SocketServer
Reason Code SockTimer
Reason Number 0

Second message:
Problem connecting to remote mailbox
Server has closed

This also can be followed by the machine re-setting (accompanied by that nasty reset tone).

Any ideas?

I would suggest you delete your 6210 settings in Control Panel / Modems, perform a "soft" reset and then re-enter the settings. I know your machine spontaneously reset, but this won't sort out a confused OS which a deliberate reset will. Presumably you have the Mobile Connectivity Update installed and use the correct Nokia settings - AT&F&K4 with Software (Xon/Xoff) flow control etc.?

I tried this, but still see the same result.

I also checked: all of the settings are as per your description, and I do have the mobile connectivity update (1.10) installed. This problem also occurs when attempting a connection, also via IR, with my Psion travel modem.

This also can be followed by the machine re-setting (accompanied by that nasty reset tone). Check that you don't have Auto Switch Off in Control Panel set to more than 30 minutes. There is a bizarre bug where this causes the machine to reset whenever you try to use the IR port.
