I have recently changed to a new computer. I have installed Palm Desktop and MapSource software. It seems that I have to reinstall all the maps even though they are already on my card. My question is if I must reinstall everything (maps basemap etc)?

Also any other suggetions? Thanks for your help...

hby123, You really don't need to install the maps unless you want to change them.

I have the same question. I've been using iQ at work, but I'll change my job next week. I tried to install at home with my WinXP system, well, MapSource did not run, and would not let me unlock.
Palm desktop only run under administrator account which I only log in with if needed, usually I log in with limited user account. Does anyone have this problem? How do you resolve it?
To be safe, could anyone suggest a way to back up all iQ related file from my computer at work?

Thank you for any help.
hby123: I guess you would have the same questions, hope you don't mind.

The best program I know of for migrating is from alohabob.com. I don't know if MapSource is supported by their software. They have a trial.

Don’t know if this will help your situation but I have a computer at home set up for my kids. I turned on administrative functions for one of the kid’s accounts and then installed the Palm desktop under his name. Then I went back and set it to a “Limited” account and everything works fine.

Kids? Don't you mean kittens?

BTW, What exactly is a Senior Morale Officer?

It has an air of irony about it, almost like you are a sargeant in the army, a brutal police officer or prison governor?:D

It’s a combination of senior member and morale officer. Basically I’m in charge (self appointed) of making sure no thread stays too serious. :D

Coincidentally, it seems that you have never been involved in a thread where my services were needed. :D

Thank you, CC. I'll try all over again with the method. The Mapsource unlock thing is really get me confused. Do they need to do all that and confuse and give their customers hard time just to protect the software? I see more negative in this way.

thanks everyone.

I ran into the unlock mapsource issue too at the beginning. I just retrived my code through Garmin's online link. Not sure exactly what I did after entering your costomer ID and logging on but now it seems unlocked.

It works, CC.
In the first installation, the MapSource somehow led me to the screen asking for customer code (it says the code is in Garmin email after register, never receive one!). With the second installation, it does not ask anymore and everything seems to work fine. Should we get the code? Do you get that code?

Glad I could help. On the code issue, I would go with the-if it’s not broken don’t fix it plan.
