Hi,

I recently purchased an ipaq 3900 (no bluetooth). I also recently purchased the samsung sch-n370 and activated on the 1X network (Bell Canada). Since this is the high-speed data network from Bell I just assumed there would be a way to use the phone as a modem for sending/receiving email.

I checked the www.thesupplynet.com for a cable and found the following:

Below is a list of Samsung phones that are USB only. They will only connect with a USB port and will not support any type of serial connection.
PDA's use a serial interface, therefore they are unable to connect with the following Samsung model phones:

SCH-A300
SCH-A310
SCH-A460
SCH-A500
SCH-N240
SCH-N370
SCH-N400
SCH-N460
SCH-N475
SGH-A250M
SGH-R225
SPH-A500
SPH-A540
SPH-T100
SPH-200
SPH-N400

Does this mean that there is NO way to connect my phone to the ipaq? Or does this mean that a cable is not required but it can be done? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nick

I did resolve my issue by replacing my cell phone to a kyocera 2255 1x phone and ordering a cable from gomiac.com.

Advice to anyone - make sure there is a cable for you device to your specific cellphone via - www.thesupplynet.com or www.gomiac.com. Also, don't expect any help from HP/Compaq for accessory/functionality support - you send them the problem and they send you a link to a accessory web site (lots of help that was).

PS - Don't get a samsung USB phone if you intend on using it as a modem with any PDA device - make sure the phone is a serial communicating device.

Anyway - the good thing was the cellular company - they replaced the phone at no additional charge and without making a fuss.

Also, just to add.

The phone carrier that I use provides a "Cable" and "Data-to-go" kit with most phones. This allows installation of specific software to a Laptop and a PDA. This will make my connection painless once I get the cable from www.gomiac.com. I have connected to the laptop and that was a breeze, next is the PDA once the cable arrives.

Not sure if there are any lessons learned from other posters where all they purchased was the cable without the connecting software.

The reason I wanted to 1X phone from my carrier (really known as CDMA) is that the phone is always connected to a wireless network connection to the carrier. The PDA/Laptop do not neet to dial-up to a server and establish a connection, with this technology - the device initializes in 2 seconds and is ready to send/receive data. I'm not sure what the success/ease rate is with a normal wireless phone.

good luck.
