I'm a teenager with a Pocket PC. I already changed all the sounds to voice clips of the HEV (from Half-Life), made my theme perfect IMHO.

Now I want to change the startup screen for the OS. When I soft-reset my system, I don't want to see a dull, lifeless, and boring startup screen that just says "iPAQ Pocket PC", I want to replace it with a .BMP of choice. How can I do this?

What ipaq model do you have? If it's an older model with ppc 2000 you would need 3rd party software, but if you have newer ipaq with ppc 2002, you can add .jpg or activate themes under Start | Settings | Today. There're plenty of info here;

No, I've already done themes, changed all the sounds, etc. I just want to change the START-UP screen for when you soft-reset or hard-reset. This is what I want to change it to (it won't work if you don't copy it to the address bar):

that file is stored in rom so you can't change it.

The screen you are talking about is kinda like the bios boot up screen on your desktop computer.

it can't be done. It is saved in a read-only chip on your ipaq. You could create a new chip and replace the old one but then your talking several thosand bucks and the need for expert skills and equiptment.

How do you FLASH a bios then.. You don't need 600 dollar equip for that ;).

The way to do this is figure out where the img file (it's not going to be any kind of BMP, JPG, or GIF) located some place with in the ROM. You can then FLASH the ROM with what ever image you want. The way FLASHING works is your flash the chip is ultra-violet light. It's the same way you would FLASH the ROM is install Linux on your PDA.

Anyways, it's VERY possible. You just need to find some article on how to do this.

What you can change easily as you say is the windows loading screen and windows exit screen. You can put either jpg's, bmps or any other (changed to the windows loading screen format of course) and you can even put animations but you cannot change the bios loading screen, its pre-loaded in the motherboard

That technique died as of Windows ME. And I'm talking about the startup for Pocket PC 2002. I really need to do some internet research on the subject. I'll probably find nothing, but it's worth a try.
