I was wondering if it was possible to get me NR-70 to send and accept things over the IR on my mobile phone. I have a Nokia 5210, and it won't interface... I'm presuming it's just sony keeping things in the family, and not allowing non-sony products to work, but I'd be interested to know if anyone else has managed it, and what they've managed to do.

Hi,
mine (NR70V) works fine with Nokia 6210 and 6310i.

It works for address beaming, Logo, Sound up- and download, GPRS connection, everything.

So it's nothing about Sony keeping it in the family.

Hmmmm... that' interesting... well, I've tried all sorts with my Nokia 5210, and that didn't work, and my friends 8210 won't recognise it either.

The IR works with the TV remote program tho, which would lead me to think that the IR on my clie is working, and I also know that the IR on my phone works.

Anyone know a way to either get it to work, or test it?

Can you send anything from the phone to any other device?

I once tried to IR from a PalmPro (upgraded) to a Nokia 6162. Turns out the 6162 had an IR window but no IR transmitter or receiver!! I don't know much about a 5210.

Yeah, my IR works between my 5210, and my friends 8210, and with another friends Palm V... so it does work! :S Hmmm...

I've fixed my problem. It wasn't my phone, or the IR hardware, it was a software problem. I went to the sony support page, and found an update... here's the address:

It fixes the following problems:
Problems with default device settings
Unable to recognize Memory Stick™ Media or Memory Stick™ Media data disappears
Unable to perform beam operation
Device speaker and bus boost control do not respond during audio playback
The LED screen lights up while playing audio files with the lid closed
Noise (static) occurs during MP3 audio playback
Unable to perform an in-cradle Hotsync operation with the lid closed

And now it works brilliantly!

BTW, to anyone thinking of using the updates above, it says on the webby that it's only for Clies Sold in the US!
