802.11b used to work. Lately, although I know there is nothing wrong with my WIFI base station, my PDA could not get any signal. Any idea why?

Have you tried soft-reset the ipaq? If that does not work, another thing to try is to remove battery for a few seconds and put it back in.

The reset I did was by pushing the reset button- I guess this is hard reset. Anyway it did not help. I also took the battery out but only for about 2 sec, it did help either.

After 5 hours I tried to connect again. This time I got connection. I am not sure what really the problem is.

Thanks for your help

I find on mine if I turn on the WLAN and then immeadiately start an application that needs the wireless it does not work. eg. If I start IE straight away every page will fail to load.

If I wait 30 secs or so after starting up the WLAN then everything works correctly.

Are you using a cordless phone or microwave oven while you are trying to connect? Both of those will effect the signal.

(If you are in an apartment, are your neighbors using those devices?)

I experience the same as Assassin's. I am not sure if a cordless phone or a microwave oven was on when I had the problem. Perhaps I should expriment.

Npitlor,

Can you easily reproduce the problem?

Thanks

In addition to my earlier reply, when I had the problem on my iPAQ, my laptopn could connect on the 802.11b. Could there be any differences in performance of the two devices?

When you start WLAN, look at the top bar and chack out the connection indicator (to the left of the speaker indicator). Don't try to do anything until that little "x" goes away, leaving the two little arrows.

There is a new ROM update for ipaq 4100, it does not address this issue directly but there are several wifi related improvements, you may want to take a look;

I wonder if it's worth doing this update, given the OS update should be out soon, and we'll have to restore the whole PDA AGAIN!!!

I'm using Wisbar Advance which replaces the normal top bar so I'd never seen that indicator. I tried it with Wisbar turned off and can now see what you mean. Thanks for the tip. I had sussed out this was probably what was happening so I just used to wait a while after turning on the WLAN.

The cordless phone is a possibility as I have DECT cordless phones around the house. It is possible they are interfering with the Ipaq as sometimes I have noticed the iPaq affecting them. When inserting a phone into a base station its bleeps as it goes on charge, occasionally since using the iPAQ I have noticed the base units beeping even when the phone was already in the charger.

Thanks for the ROM info AnswerDude, I think I'll wait for the OS update as Npitlor mentioned

Does anyone know when the new OS update becomes available?

In addition to the ROM update there is also a WIFI driver update, but if you want to use the WIFI update it is mandatory to do the ROM update first.
