My new Ique came with R3 installed and worked well on a weekend trip - so far so good. I had stripped my WinXP laptop of all Palm and Garmin software and purged the registry of referenced to palm, garmin, pocketmirror and chapura before installing as per instructions.

I just noticed that MapSource is not installed, so I can't use the maps on my PC. Did a miss an install option? How best to install from the CDs that came with my iQue so as to not mess up what seems to be working fine?

Also, I have Garmin Topo CDs, which installed and functioned on my PC and eTrex Legend without any unlock codes. How best to add these to the PC as set up for my iQue?

Go to the Sticky post in my signature and click the Mapsource: link, you'll go right to the Garmin pasge where you can download the full-blown Mapsource. For whatever reason Garmin didn't give us the vull version, they gave us what we've called the 'gimped' version, but you are entitled to the full program.

While you're reading the sticky post, be sure to check the other links, especially Ander's FAQ, for more helpful info.

I was able to install and use Mapsource V6.1 successfully with the map files installed during iQue installation.

The Garmin fact describe how I can transfer Topo files too, but they are not clear on how/where I might copy said Topo files on my hard disk. Would I just make a sub-directory in Garmin and copy each Topo CD folder into that directory?

Thanks for the help.

If you have another Mapsource product, then it comes on one or more CD's. Install them, and the maps will end up in the proper place.
If you, for some obscure reason, want to install the files manually, you have to place them where you want them, and then update the system register yourself, to tell Mapsource where they are.

Perhaps my Garmin Topo version is old, (it says V3, but that is Mapsource - I don't think the topo maps have been updated since) but running install on the CDs only installed Mapsource and a basemap. It gives no option to install detailed maps to hard disk and expects you to insert disks as needed.

When I had only Garmin Topo for use with my eTrax Legend, I would copy all disks to HD into a Garmin folder, preserving directory structure, and run install from my HD. Mapsource then used detail maps from my HD without requiring CDs.

I'm just concerned that by doing this after having installed iQue that I'll funbob the existing install.

There are two ways. Either do as you describe, which shouldn't funbob anything, in spite of having the iQue software installed.
Or you copy the map files to a directory of your choice, on your HD, and then change the location of where to look for these files in the system registry.
I usually do the latter, since it's more efficient. But it does take that you aren't afraid of fiddling with the registry, of course. That information can easily be very funbobbed, and then you are down the ... funbob?

That seemed to work fine. In Mapsource, I can select the desited Topo Region or CitySelect. Using Palm Desktop, I selected and transferred Topo maps to my iQue.

Is there any way to rapidly switch between viewing my position on the appropriate Topo and CitySelect maps, or do I need to do the Preferences, Maps, Detailed Maps checkbox thing to choose which is displayed?

Thanks,
