Please, does anyone know of a (not too convoluted ;-) ) way of changing file associations on the S7/5mx (Ihave one of each)?

Ihave Opera installed on both machines; on the 5mx, .htm and .html files are associated with Opera, so that if I double-tap on the file icon it opens Opera rather than the "native"Psion browser, but on the S7 the association is with the "native" Psion browser.

I also have nconvert installed (mainly so that Ican convert Psion Word files to RTF to mail them to other people), and this has grabbed the association for .txt files. I would prefer to associate .txt files with RMRText, because Ijust want to open and read the .txt files rather than converting them. Still on the subject of nconvert, it also insists on trying to work as a plug-in with Opera, so that if Itry to download a file which nconvert thinks it recognises, nconvert tries (and often fails :-( ) to open the file rather than letting me save it. It would be nice to be able to disable this behaviour...

Any help would be much appreciated.

To solve your S7/Opera problem, locate the Opera.app file (in ?:\System\Apps\Opera) and rename is to Opera.appX. Then rename it back to Opera.app. It will now take back the .html and .htm file associations.

Another option would be to look at plOpen (http://www.psiloc.com/psion/eng/plopen/index.html) which gives full control over mime types.

Thanks, JJ - Ipicked up your post just now, disconnected from the web, followed your recipe and it worked. I've also downloaded a trial version of plopen, which I'll take for a spin.

That just leaves the little question of how I can associate the .txt file type with RMRText rather than with nConvert...

Cheers

Can't help on that one I'm afraid, never used RMRText. You could try the Symbian text editor though - this will associate itself with .txt files. Download from http://www.symbian.com/developer/downloads/archive.html

And it's quite a good editor anyway :)

Have a look in the folder System\Recogs on whatever drives you use. Don't know too much about it, but I know that some programs put files here that help the OS associate file types with programs.

PsiLoc has a module which allows you to associate file types with applications.
