I am trying to use PocketDVD for Palm and MMPlayer to compress, encode, and view DVD movies on my Treo 600. Am having real problems viewing - image is spotty, with jumps, fits and starts, and experimenting with the encoding parameters doesn't seem to be helping. Software developer not much help. Would like to be able to use my 512 card for a movie for traveling, so that I can encode at a bit higher resolution, but not much luck. Any thoughts on using PocketDVD and MMPlayer or is there a better alternative? Is it just a pipedream anyway, considering the poor screen resolution on the current Treo 600? Thanks -

It's perfectly possible to watch a great video on your Treo. The Low resolution is a bonus in a way- it allows you to create a video that plays perfectly.
I reccomend you grab Pocket DivX Encoder, http://divx.ppccool.com
It's free and works great. (Note MMPlayer needs to be purchased to play longer than 30 seconds.)
Open up Pocket DivX Encoder, and load up your Movie off the hard drive. You need to press "Change" and set 160x120 then under advanced option select just VHQ and "create avi....."
Video Quality 5 should be ample and audio quality 2. At these settings, your movie should both play on your treo and only take up 1.5MB per Minute.
Should your PDA still not cope with the movie, you should manually change the framerate to 12.5FPS under the advanced settings.

If you want to encode from DVDs, you'll need to get them on to your hard drive first, and I'm afraid that's something you'll have to find out how to do.

Let me know if you want more help,
