I purchased a used mako on ebay as I am tired of the battery problem. This one seems to have a good battery, but a very weak open/close mechanism ans small rattle inside. After a couple of open/close and a good shaking, a small black spring and a black pin fell out. Can somebody please point to a link with pics on how to put them back in.
Thank you.
Dmitri

Also, when I replaced my batteries, I posted some tips about the springs in the Revo/Mako section in March '04. I found that an eyeglass screwdriver was helpful getting the springs back on.

Thank you, Jake. I will try opening the mako in a day or two once I get convinced that the battery is good.
I guess the small pin is the the "nail" that attaches the bottom loop of the spring to the base half. The stem of the nail goes thorugh the loop, and the larger head keep the loop in place. I guess the stem of the nail goes inside the base. When you opened your unit, did you have to take the springs out or just unhook them from the cover? I hope the pin just slid out of its hole and not broke a piece of the housing.
Thanks.
Dmitri
Yes, I'm a little worried, too, about why that pin came out. You hear about springs popping out, but I can't recall someone talking about a loose pin.
But if it did break off, I think you would've seen some plastic housing come out with the spring/pin.
It's a smart move to wait to see about the battery--no sense in opening up that machine twice.
When I replaced my battery, I was able to do so WITHOUT taking out the actual pins. I simply unhooked the springs. It was cramped, but I found the pins immovable.
Good luck and keep us posted,
Jake
